Book Description

July 1, 2007
Practical, savvy, and wide-ranging, this resource shows men and women how to avoid the pitfalls that turn a straightforward divorce into a nightmare. Drawing on her own personal experience, the author also brings together the best advice from a wide range of experts that include divorce attorneys, mental-health professionals, and financial gurus. This guide coaches separating couples how to build a shortlist of the best divorce attorneys in their area, how to conduct an interview to find the right one, and what the full range of legal options are for each case. Further tips explain how to manage the paperwork, ways to lower legal costs, and practical advice for getting back to "normal" once the divorce is finalized. This reassuring manual also explains the stages of divorce grief and how to separate the emotional divorce from the legal divorce.

There are times when one can learn the most, not from the professionals, the book-worms or professors, but from one who has been through what lies ahead for you and your family if you do not get good sound advice. Such is the Smart Divorce. The author, Deborah Moskovitch, masterfully leads the reader through the quagmire of turmoil that she too endured. The Smart Divorce is a clear reminder that Divorce is a life altering event. Moskovitch points out that the emotional factors are often more telling then the legal issues. You need to deal with both aspects of divorce: Legal and Emotional. This book is an excellent guide on doing just that from the inception of a separation, hiring an attorney, going through the system, trying to resolve issues by ADR and much much more. As a fellow author of a book on much of the same subject matter, it is abundently clear that Moskovitch knows what she is talking about. This book is a must read especially for those who are at the beginning stages of divorce and for those who are in the thick of it as well as for those who are ready to move on. As an attorney myself, I found the ways to save on attorney fees and related costs to be particullary useful for those not so accustomed to getting raked over the coals by costly litigation. I will recommend this book to all of my family law clients. Read it and you will see why.
