About the Author

Ilene Beckerman was nearly sixty when she began her writing career. Her articles have appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and Ladies’ Home Journal. She has judged People's "Best and Worst Dressed" issue and has traveled the country, speaking to women's groups. “Sometimes,” she says, “i feel like Grandma Moses—she didn’t start until later in life either—but i try not to look like her.”

beautiful memories of my own grandmother, whom i spent a lot of time
with growing up. it's very poignant and well worth reading.

Beckerman's books are absolute delights in every way. This book about her grandmother was so entertaining and just plain FUN. Beckermans' grandmother was sharp-toungued and oh, so very wise.

The illustrations add charm to the already fun book.

For me, I will read this again every once in awhile as I have with her other books.

I wish she'd write LOTS more.

"The Smartest Woman I Know" has become my favorite gift for a friend's birthday, housewarming, dinner invitation. It is humorous, nostalgic, and fun. All who have received it are now using this little gem themselves as special gifts. Sorella Schiller

I found this book to be very warm, light-hearted & a quick read. I'm not Jewish, but that doesn't mean it isn't full of wisdom, humor and life lessons that only come from family. Almost all of us have an Ettie in our life, in some way, that is full of wit & wisdom for any situation. I recommend this to anybody looking for a quick read that gets your mind off life's worries & back to the good old days of Ettie, and those like her, that live on always within stories like this & in our hearts.
