4.0 out of 5 stars The Smurfs Come Alive July 30, 2013
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The Smurfs come alive for kids everywhere with this exciting new video game. My family received the Wii U version to try out, and they absolutely loved it. There are thirty levels to travel through and players can chose one of nine popular characters including, Hefty, Jokey, Brainey and Papa. Unfortunately and much to my daughter's dismay, Smurfette isn't a option, but this is because the ultimate goal of the game, like the movie, if to save Smurfette from the evil clutches of Gargamel. The gang will travel through such exotic places as Paris and some magical lands including an enchanted forest and the Lava Jungle. Along the way, they gather smurf berries to increase their score. On most consoles,up to four people can play, but on Wii U, there is a special feature that allows for five players. As you move through the various levels, you gather more and more popular characters to fill up the mushroom village and you get to fight big bosses including Gargamel and Azreal at the end of each level.

All my children had a great time with his game. My son's only real complaint was that if you get hit by something even once, you lose most of your berries and thus your score plummets, but as he got more familiar with the game, this happened less and less. The game is challenging without being overwhelming for grade school kids and the violence level is minimal so its a great choice for kids between the ages of five and ten. Any older than that, and they may find it too easy. Younger children will get frustrated. The graphics were fabulous. Watching them play from my seat was like watching a movie. The characters are adorable and very interactive. If your kids love The Smurfs Movie, this video game is definitely worth the investment.

Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
It's no secret that games based on movies are rarely good. Every now and then you'll get something great like The Chronicles of Riddick, but they're few and far between. Games with kids in mind get the same treatment if you ask me. The Smurfs 2, while I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing, is such a disappointing game that if this is the first game your child plays, they probably won't be that interested in the hobby since first impressions are everything. What bugs me is that The Smurfs 2 isn't a -bad- game by any means. No, it's just boring and insanely overpriced for how little content there is. Unless you're a hardcore Smurfs fan, there's no reason to pay full price for this game. Give it a couple of months when it goes down a good 80% and maybe then it'll be worth checking out.

I haven't seen the new Smurfs movie, so I can't say if the game here follows the events of it, but once again, Smurfette is kidnapped. Though this time, it's not just Gargamel who's involved, but now you have grey skinned Smurf-lookalikes: the Naughties. It's up to you as one of several Smurfs to travel through 6 worlds and get her back. Yeah, nothing new here plot-wise, though you just need to keep in mind the target audience. The game is a standard platformer where you move from left to right, jumping over pits and taking out what few enemies there are. Scattered throughout the levels are countless Smurfberries. These act like the rings in your typical Sonic the Hedgehog game, allowing you to keep playing as long as you have some berries. When you defeat an enemy, they drop a small vial of blue liquid (I'm guessing Smurfberry juice). As you collect thse, a big vial on the side of the screen slowly fills up. Once it's filled, the classic "La la lalalala...

3.0 out of 5 stars SEEMED PROMISING AT FIRST...COULD HAVE BEEN 5 STARS January 1, 2014
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U
I bought this for my 4 year old daughter. I have a Smurfs game for the Playstation that is so much more creative and fun than this game. First off, the title screen and graphics overall are gorgeous. The controls are okay, seems like your typical platformer with gameplay I would compare to a Mario or Donkey Kong Country game. You collect smurf berries which are abundant throughout each level. Also similar to a Sonic game where you collect rings, you do not lose a life unless you get touched by an enemy and you are no longer carrying the rings, or in this case, the smurf berries. First level 1-1 seemed very promising, bright and beautiful backgrounds, increasing enemies as you move to level 2-2 and beyond. But wait...beyond..Didn't I just traverse this level in 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4? Level 1-5 and I am still traveling on the same grassy ground, jumping platforms and flower petals that travel up and down, the typical same lush background I've seen in every other level before this one? This game could have been so much better. I could have designed the levels and given something more fun and unexpected in each one. How about even a treetop level, perhaps riding down pails that that the Smurfs may have rigged up from tree to tree? A mushroom field? Something. Really? I'm still moving across the same forest floor with no imagination put into this game whatsoever. So my daughter and I beat level 1. Now it's on to 2-1. Spooky Forest. Here we have a forest that is dark and it's nighttime. Traveling the forest floor (again) and jumping from platforms (again) that move and break away, we moved onto Level 2-2. Here we go again. No originality, or creativity used whatsoever. This game was 59.99 when it was released. Why all you had to do was wait a month and now you can pick it up for less than 19.99. Read more ›
