I got this game because I have an eight year old kid who I also took to the movies to see "The Smurfs 2". She thought it was cool there was a game based on the movie, so I opted to get this for her. It's a good thing I have that kid, otherwise this game wouldn't get played, as it's target is DEFINITELY the kiddos.

It's actually well constructed for what it is. A simple tie in game to a movie that has good animation, and voice talent from the movie, so the Smurfs look like and sound like what they did in the movies. We're not talking AAA title graphics here, but they're nicely done, and gameplay mechanic is simple enough that my 8yr old enjoyed playing it. Wasn't too easy for her, so that was good.

This is a simple game that follows the basic plot of the movie through a series of levels/adventures to recover gold coins, and free animals. You don't "kill" anything in this game, you "free" them. That actually reminds me of an old Apogee game, Commander Keen, you never killed anything there, either. While there's no Dopefish in this game, the feel is kind of the same. You look for coins, collect "smurfberries", and work towards the ultimate goal of rescuing Smurfette (and recovering other Smurfs).

Once you rescue Smurfette, the game opens up certain areas that were unreachable previously. You can then play as any Smurf, including the rescued Smurfette, but the first time through the game you can't play as Smurfette, as you're trying to rescue her. There's not a ton of replay value to an adult, but my daughter loved playing as Smurfette, so she enjoyed the replay because of that.

It's a game that you can leave the young kids play on their own and not have to worry about what content they might run into.

My daughter (almost 6) loves this game. She is fairly new to video games and beat it in about 2 days with minimal help. Even my 3 year old can do the basic moves. Just a fun game - even Mom & Dad had fun watching/playing!

In honesty, I'm not a video gamer, never have been, never will be. I'm basing this review off how my sons liked it. The graphics seemed awesome, the challemges not too difficult for their age group of 7, and they really seemed to enjoy playing. They loved the movies and were overjoyed to play. Comparable to the Shrek, Toy Story, and Cars games in most/all aspects. No complaints.

This game is lots of fun for kids and adults as well. All of the family played it at a birthday party and we had a great time. I'd highly recommend for kids or kids at heart.

If your idea of variety is a blue level and a green level then this may not apply to you. This game suffers badly from repetitive levels with very little control by the player. You jump and use a power/action button, that appears to be it. You collect smurf berries (as a score) and gold medals to unlock more smurfs. Game play is broken up a bit by some boss fights which consists of dodging / jumping out of the way and then jumping on the boss.

I may be able to forgive all of this but there are three additional issues, first is collision detection. Players may not occupy the same spot at the same time, which means if you are both trying to jump on something neither of you will make it (or one will push the other player off) also if one player runs right, and the other player is to their right, they get pushed.

The second issue is the environmental parts of the game, meant to jump on or ride often are unavailable for the next person, making them wait a few seconds to make the same jump or die. Extremely frustrating. I figured with quality platformers like Rayman made by Ubisoft the game would be more like that, but it's not.

Lastly is the poor menu management system. Honestly there is no reason at this point of gaming for this issue. It's very easy for another player to mess up the level select by pressing left or right as the other person is selecting A.

Kids don't seem to care about the game being repetitive, but their both under 7. They enjoy the Smurfs enough and haven't played enough games yet to know better. Good for them, bad for me to play with them.

I love this game. This is a kids game and a kid can easily beat this but each level has requirements for getting 100% and a adult can find some challenge in it. OH and the coop is awesome fun as well.
