This definitely fits the bill.

My 9yo son and I haven't tried the option of hooking it up to a battery but we have checked everything on the car.

I bought this for my daughter's science fair project which is due Nov. 14th! We put it together, following the directions and the trouble shooting when it wouldn't work...It still has NEVER worked!

Great price and nice book with a solar kit to make a model solar car using one of the composite pages for the chasis of the car. You can't angle the solar panel so it's best to play with the car during the midday. Runs slower than some other solar cars but runs nice and straight. Reverse the wires to have the car move in the opposite direction. This is the 3rd year I've ordered these cars for my technology class.

I bought this for my third grade daughter's science project on solar energy. The car is easy to assemble and runs well. There are explanations and diagrams in the accompanying book. Well worth the money.

This car was a lot of fun to put together, but it doesn't work as a solar powered car. My 9yo son and I haven't tried the option of hooking it up to a battery but we have checked everything on the car. We even left it outside for an hour on a clear, hot and sunny day in Florida.

We bought this book and car kit thinking we'd kill two birds with one stone: get a nice visual aid, as well as a science project required resource book. The book itself is short, and relies so heavily on 'kid-speak' that was obviously written by an adult, that it is nearly unintelligible. We're going to have to go to the library to get his book source, because this isn't sufficient.

The car looks like it has the potential to work. Outside on a winter New England day, at midday, the wheels would turn when the car is held int he air, but not quite enough to power the car forward when on the ground. But it definitely has potential.
