"The Solo Traveler's Handbook is a practical, engaging and entertaining resource for traveling the world safely and with joy. It is a must read for singles, introverts, first time explorers and anyone who wonders about the pros and cons of traveling the globe solo."

From the Author

I came to travel solo out of necessity - I became a widow and an empty-nester at about the same time. I continue to do so out of love - a love of the many opportunities that solo travel offers more than any other travel style.

As a writer, sharing my experiences was natural. In the three-plus years since I started my blog, aptly called Solo Traveler, I've published more than 750 articles offering solo travel stories, safety advice and tips for fun, dining, meeting people, saving money and more. While Solo Traveler is a wonderful resource and forges a sense of community amongst solo travelers, it is sometimes difficult for readers to find the information they're looking for. This is the why I wrote The Solo Traveler's Handbook. It covers many aspects of solo travel from planning and packing to dining and safety. There are also stories peppered throughout the book to give you a sense of what solo travel can mean.
The entire Solo Traveler Project -- the book, the blog, the Solo Travel Society on Facebook and speaking engagements -- is a personal journey as well as a call to action. I urge you to break the bounds of convention and expectations; to claim the right to be alone, whether for a day or a lifetime; and to travel solo.

More About the Author

A love of travel, personal loss and an empty nest all conspired for me to begin Solo Traveler in 2009. Resonating with thousands of readers, the blog quickly went from personal to public and the Solo Traveler Project began.

The Solo Traveler's Handbook, the Solo Traveler blog, speaking engagements about solo travel including The Smithsonian Institute, the amazing Solo Travel Society on Facebook and a manifesto on traveling alone called Glad You're Not Here all connect those who love and those who long to travel solo.

Prior to my career as a writer, I had a conference, trade show and publishing company with my husband which we started grew and then sold. Between businesses I traveled with my family for 10 months and returned to university to complete a Master's Degree in History focusing on how it is represented on feature film. Yes, I snuck two interests into one degree.

Now I travel. I travel solo and I carefully observe how I do it. Then I write and share my stories, tips and advice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't have to be single... October 11, 2012
Format:Paperback
You don't have to be single to travel solo!. Maybe you want to visit a destination, but your partner doesn't . Janice Waugh has shown in her Solo Travel books that anyone can travel solo if you're equipped with the right advice. She provides essential safety tips, such as not arriving at night at an unknown destination, suggestions on dining alone and advice on how to manage your finances in order to get you there. Janice even provides suggestions on how to photograph yourself on your solo journey. This is an exceptionally detailed and informative resource for anyone thinking of taking a solo journey. I highly recommend this book as a source for travelling solo.
