The Junior Novel of the movie was exactly like the movie, which was my problem. I had hoped that this novel would've gone a little more in depth. There was just a bit too much dialogue. If you're a fan of the movie and want to be able to take it with you everywhere, then this book may be for you.

I knew this was intended to be a kid's book before I ordered it, but I've read a lot of kid's books lately that were equally satisfying, like the Harry Potter series and the Mediator series (by Meg Cabot).

While I wasn't really disappointed with this, it really was more simplistic than I anticipated.

I suspect that rather than the more usual sequence of events, this wasn't a book first and then a movie, but rather, the reverse.

A movie is really more the equivalent of a novella. Turning a novel into a movie is always a problem of stuffing in as much as possible and then eliminating what you just positively CAN'T get in. Usually, when a movie is turned into a book, the author fills in a lot of the back story, plus a lot of subplots and other interesting stuff to make a whole book. This wasn't done in this case.

The story that is an excellent, action-filled movie makes for a very simplistic book. I enjoyed it anyway, but it could have been a much richer experience.

Not a full novelization by any means, but then, it's not supposed to be, is it? Sticks to the plot well, and some of the descriptions are pretty funny. It went fast, but it's a five dollar book, yo. You're not buying it for content, you're buying it because it's connected to Sorcerer's Apprentice and it has a picture of Nicholas Cage on the front. And pictures of adorable actors and actresses in the middle. And Doc Ock.

This is a slightly abridged novelization of a too-short movie, so don't expect a lot of detail or depth. It's been a long time since I was in the target audience range (9-12 yrs.) so I can't say how well the young 'uns would like it. I bought it as a supplement to the movie, since it was the only written story available, and it serves that purpose adequately, if not splendidly. What I'd really like would be a full-length (adult, that is) novelization, filling in a lot of information that was left out of the movie. This version does help with that, at least a little.
Take into account the book's target audience, forgive a few spelling errors, linger over the eight pages of movie stills, and you should be able to enjoy this novelization. Yes, there are a few discrepancies between it and the movie, but nothing that changes the story. I'ts a quick, easy read. If you liked the movie, you'll probably like the book.

I read this book aloud for my boys aged 8-1/2 and 12. We had not seen the movie before we read the book. In short, their opinion was: "Too much romance, too much talk, not enough magic." Several evenings they requested other books, and I practically had to force them to listen to the rest of the book.

It was definitely not a page-turner. There are about 8 pages of color pictures in the center of the book, but even the pictures didn't have much action. We were disappointed in the book.
