This is not a “how to read tarot” beginners’ book.
Christiana Gaudet
Wonderful...a Tarot book that highlights the spiritual message in each card as well as how to offer spiritual readings.
Katrina Wynne
I have been reading and re-reading this book for the past month.

I was lucky to be asked to read an advance review copy of James Ricklef’s new book, “The Soul’s Journey.” What impressed me immediately was the wide range of material from which James drew to write this book.

In “The Soul’s Journey,” Ricklef quotes a wealth of spiritual texts, both modern and ancient and from many cultures. For each of the seventy-eight tarot cards he finds references that help us understand each card. With these references Ricklef is able to place the spiritual wisdom of each card in a context of universal spiritual truth.

My first encounter with this fabulous book inspired me to write just a few words about my impression of the book.

"With this essential guide, Tarot earns its place at the grown-up table of spiritual thought. Ricklef effortlessly distills the wisdom of the Universe and shares it with us."

Now the book is published. It’s available in paperback and electronic version. As I hold the substantial paperback in my hand I’m glad I have the print version. I love my Kindle, but there is something about holding this book that just feels good.

“The Soul’s Journey” is appropriate for tarotists of all levels of experience, with this caveat. This is not a “how to read tarot” beginners’ book. This book is deep, meaty and spiritual. With a forward by Katrina Wynne and a practical introduction by the author suggesting many ways to use this book, “The Soul’s Journey” does what tarot itself does. It coalesces spiritual wisdom and makes it accessible to us.

One of Ricklef’s suggestions for using the book is to perform bibliomancy with it. That is, to simply ask a question, close your eyes, open the book and read what is presented as a message of wisdom from the Universe.

I have never been able to wear the mantle of an organized religion without becoming uncomfortable about one aspect or another. Eventually, that discomfort led me to move on. As a result, I've gone through life evolving my own "spiritual path"; that isn't easy, either. One of the practices that has been helpful in restoring the feeling of being "in touch" with spirituality (whether you spell it "n-a-t-u-r-e" or "g-o-d" or some other way makes no difference), has been the exploration of Tarot. James Ricklef's book makes that journey easier. I can match my sets of assumptions and beliefs to his thoughtful and insightful suggestions, and I come away deeply enriched. If you are trying to find your own way, as I have been doing, then I encourage you to try this book. I undertook the reading of this book without knowing whether I'd find a good fit for me or not; I respect Mr. Ricklef's work and had some hope that we might have some common ground. I found that the work abounded with fresh thinking, new observations, marvelous (and challenging) questions, and practical ways for me to integrate my Tarot work into my life's deeper purpose. Being in the moment, practicing mindfulness, and deeply appreciating the world we live in are values found throughout. The book was an extraordinary confirmation of my sense that there really needs to be more to life than just what the material world offers.

James Ricklef has created a wonderful & unique addition to my tarot library. A void has now been filled by a thoughtful, organized & well documented creative achievement by Ricklef. For those of us who view life as the journey of a soul within a physical experience on planet earth; this is the 'go to' text on any assortment of issues from financial, love & health in order to place the pragmatic within a context that is ultimately the most critical issue of our times... how does this xyz issue affect the journey of my/your soul ... our culture being obsessed with material issues.

I have been a dedicated student of Meditations On The Tarot by Valentine Tomberg and see 'The Soul's Journey: Finding The Spiritual Message In The Tarot' as the practical application of all that is within that text... in this James Ricklef has achieved an eminently soulful & spiritual approach to the art of the tarot reading. Here is the soul's journey for everyone via the tarot... no matter one's religious viewpoint or upbringing.

This is a major achievement in tarot studies & must be taken seriously by all those interested in reading, studying & using the tarot in everyday life. Thank you James Ricklef!
