David Nail's "I'm About to Come Alive" was one of my top 3 albums of 2009. He released an album that was so good, that I wasn't sure how he could top it. I eagerly awaited his follow-up album, and let me tell you - this is just as good, if not better, than his first release.

Compared to his debut album, "The Sound of a Million Dreams" is a bit more introspective with some southern rock flair. There's some good slide guitar, some bluesy sounding tunes, and a lot of piano. It's a bit of a slow tempo album, which suits his voice really well. There are a couple looser, jamming kind of songs that break up the tempo a bit. There isn't a single song to skip - every one has an incredibly catchy hook, with thought-provoking lyrics.

David Nail is someone who breathes life into the country scene, which has gotten stale over the past few years. He is country, but doesn't feel the need to prove it by injecting every song with lyrics about whiskey. He actually relies on his talent to produce good music, which is how it should be done.

I could break down every song, but it's not necessary. One of my favorites is the title track "Sound of a Million Dreams". As soon as I heard it, it reminded me of something that Phil Vassar, whom I love, would write. Low and behold, he did! Another stand out track, "Desiree", was written by Keith Urban. Nail co-wrote roughly half of the songs here, which really helps to give it that singer-songwriter feel.

If you like good, deep, though provoking songs that hit hard and leave you wanting more, then you will love this album. Highly recommended!

Another wonderful effort from David Nail. The excellence seen in his single "Turning Home" comes again in this CD as there really is no bad song throughout. David's singing is unlike most other country music but fits well within this genre. Smooth and soulful would be a good description, the songs tell a vivid picture about many country-themed topics but are told and presented in an "old school" way. Vocals are excellent as has we have come to expect out of David Nail. While the CD could use a bit more fast and upbeat songs I believe that it is an improvement in this category from the last CD.

Concluding remarks: where this album moves ahead of many of today's country music artists is its ability to storytell. Chris Young is another artist that has a gift of lyrical storytelling, David is just more soulful. Lyrics are pleasantly devoid of monotonous repetition and lead a listener into a good listening experience.

David Nail has done it again. This album is going to stand on its own instead of just a follow up to his incredible first album Im about to come alive. With this album he didn't attempt to recreate or out-do his first album and instead went the direction his life and his music took him and he did so impressively. So far I have already fallen in love with the songs "Desiree", "I thought you knew", and "The sound of a million dreams". I saw David in concert in mid october and he performed "Catch you while I can", "She rides away", and "Thats how i'll remember you" and I loved them all. On the album the songs are performed slower but still amazing. All in all a wonderful album that will be playing in my life throughout the holiday season. Thanks D.Nail!

i've heard of david nail from his current radio hit, "whatever she's got"... i sampled it but wasn't really carried away by the songs... on a lark, i sampled this album instead and bought on the spot. david didn't do much of the writing (some of nashville's finest provided much of the material), but the songs and david's vocals really are quite excellent. my favourite tracks here are "half mile hill", "catch you while i can", and the title track.

As I attended David Nail's "The Sound of a Million Dreams" CD release party in Knoxville on 15 November, I would not have thought that in the short amount of time form then to today that this album would be one of my favorites in 2011. To provide a fair heads-up, this is an album that requires multiple plays to understand and appreciate its depth and importance to country music this year.

To fans of country music, do yourself a favor and pick up David Nail's "The Sound of a Million Dreams." Coming in at eleven tracks, old fans and newcomers of David Nail alike should take the time to enjoy the detailed, soulful sound found on this album. The only dud on the album is "Grandpa's Farm" as it does not fit the sound or range of David Nail and the identity forged on his debut album "I'm About To Come Alive." In fact, that song would better fit a country musician such as Luke Bryan.

While the opening track is the weakest on the album, the rest of the album consists of better lyrics and melodies than what one would find on most other modern pop country albums. While David Nail's "The Sound of a Million Dreams" is not an album that would have been released by an icon of country's past, this is a definitive country album for today as David Nail is as transparent as a man can be performing songs that grab you no matter what point you are at in your life. If you come away with anything from this album, be certain that this album is unique in that it has depth and heart and sometimes that carries more weight than anything.
