Book Description

May 11, 2012
These poems speak the quiet language of New England backyards and woods. Using images from nature, they portray subtle changes of weather both external and internal. Observations of a quiet pond, mathematics lessons in grammar school, the poignancy of autumn, all lead to accessible yet profound meditations on life and aging, They "take us into spaces of freedom, feeling, search, and faith."

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful, playful, heartbreaking June 21, 2012
McNeal reduces the storm of life into words that resonate in a way that lingers, quiet and clear, slowly unfolding. Sometimes her words bring catharsis and tears, othertimes insight, relief, laughter, and an overwhelming sense of "at last, home." With this book in hand, I can roll up my meditation mat, and simply read a poem each morning out in the garden. That's enough to center me. She has a knowledge of words that is visceral, sensual, and playful too, which brings another sort of enjoyment. The poems age beautifully, taking new meanings as the reader grows older.

A great gift for important life events from graduations to divorces to moving away....these poems offer the person you you love something that will hug them and inspire them when you aren't around.
