I really liked the shy and passionate Darcy of this story. He falls in love immediately and it did not take very long before he would marry the object of his passionate affection. The old nemesis of Wickham is still present but more of a hindrance to the Bennets than to Darcy in this retelling of P&P. In addition, there is a mystery to be solved and this engages Darcy, the Bingleys and the Bennets in a search for the missing Mr. Bennet. Elizabeth's fragility because of her missing father and her family's needy ways captures Darcy's complete attention and Elizabeth benefits from his "interference" in this story rather than be injured by it. This is one of Enid Wilson's better attempts at story telling. I recommend this story to all who are not so interested in canon renditions of P&P as this certainly doesn't follow any known pattern. In addition, this tale is not for the under 17 reader as it has some explicit sex scenes.

Reading the first part, it was extremely shocking to see how it ended. Extremely different from any other variation or what if, and I recommend it. I am a diehard Darcy & Elizabeth fan, and have read over 100 variations and what if's, and this is one I would recommend.

A very enjoyable read that changes the whole story and what some of the characters themselves did to be lead to a very similar situation as Austen showed us it just has a large spin to it.

I wont go into much detail here, this book is about sex, Darcy and Lizzy kinky sex. Every now and then you can appreciate a little bit of the actual storyline, but other then that, pure trash. I rarely give negative reviews, but there it is.

Bottom line, unless your looking for a large dose of soft porn with your P&P fanfic dont waste your money.

The beginning was not my cup of tea. I thought it was unrealistic, but I pushed through it and I'm glad I did! I'm sure if you are in anyway a purist you might not enjoy the story, but I'm not, so I just let it take me away without worrying about the logistics.

It's been six years since Mr. Bennet suddenly disappeared. After leasing out Longbourn, the Bennet women are now living in Broadstairs of Kent. The girls have been invited to a masquerade ball for single men and women only. The ball put on by the militia is being held to encourage the young people to get to know each other, marry and have children, to replace the men that were lost during the war. At the ball they are served wine that has been infused with herbs that make people lose their inhibitions, in hopes to make them marry quicker.

Elizabeth and Darcy meet at the ball, and after he insults her he is drawn to her and won't leave her side. They end up in a compromising position and get married. With her father's disappearance Elizabeth is afraid to give her heart away. She has also broken her vow never to marry but she realizes marrying Darcy will help her family since her father will be declared legally dead in another year and they will lose Longbourn. Darcy offers to help in the search, with his resources and connections, will they find out what happen to Mr. Bennet? Will they also find love along the way?

There are a few twists and turns along the way and a few dead ends in their search. There are also a few people objecting to their marriage, causing trouble. Wilson puts a different spin on Wickham and makes him a long lost relative of Mr. Bennet and the heir to Longbourn.

Overall, I enjoy the story and I'm glad I read it!

I would rate this mature for some sexual scene.

In my opinion, this was one of Enid Wilson's better books. Like "Fire and Cross", it had intrigue, mystery and some great character development. Enid is known for her Sci.Fi. and "Steamy Darcy" novels. Although not set in the far future, the initial premise is a little out of the ordinary and does not follow the canon. In this variation, Mr. Bennet has been missing for 6 years, leaving the Bennet women to essentially "fin for themselves" in the seaside town of Broadstairs. It is told through Lizzy's eyes. As the story opens, Colonel Forster has planned a masquerade ball to bring young people together. His goal is to boost the marriage market and replinish the diminished male population with children.(perils of war) Unknown to the guests, the food and drinks are laced with something that causes all who ingest to become amorous. (some suggestive sex scenes) All in all, several mock marriages take place and guests leave the ball in a daze. Even though Darcy and Lizzy start out with their usual "Love/Hate" relationship, our leading characters have been caught in one such marriage and leave the party only to realize on the next morning what has happened. From here on the plot becomes a little more realistic as relationships evolve and new twists emerge envolving familiar characters and culprits. ??? Was Lizzy compromised? Is the marriage legal? Will it be acknowledged or abandoned? What will happen to the Bennet women? What ever happened to Mr. Bennet? Will he be found or this a "who done it" book? Just what is Lizzy's vow? This book is not for the Austen purist but is definitely a good read. Thanks Enid! ~Jen Red~
