Charming, insightful, poignant yet deep into the soul, lively, intelligent and wise all describe this journey of inner discovery and survival. You will learn a great deal about following your Bliss.
In The Spirit Stills the Storm this wonderful storyteller, Sam Lien Le, takes us on a spellbinding true journey into the heart of survival and the pursuit of freedom. This little known volatile subject about the `boat people' has never been told to such realism. Nor has it been told to the final end; the American Dream.
This is a story of escape from tyranny with an underlying sub-story of success in relationships and absorbing knowledge with the help of a guiding spirit along the way toward ultimate bliss and success.
Le's journey is not only a journey of external obstacles including the most severe typhoon in decades but internal obstacles. He cleverly weaves us through his struggle to reach greater heights and bliss for himself and his family. His family comes first but he is willing to sacrifice all for the good of the whole. He discovers his latent leadership skills during this tumultuous journey.
I served two tours in Vietnam. While with Special Forces I met Sam in 1966 and have been his friend ever since.
I conclude by saying, this story is so wonderful and needs to be told that I told Sam I would produce a movie based on his story.

Sam's book is an excellent story of a simple man, who, using his wits, and quiet determination, risks EVERYTHING to give his family a better life than the oppressive existence offered by the communist regime of Vietnam. He is a competent enough writer to be coherent and enjoyable. His story is amazing. The book is an easy read, and hard to put down. I met Sam and am very proud he chose to be my fellow Amercian.

This book is so wonderful. I personally know the author and he is exactly in person as he is in the book. Sam is kind, pleasant, respectful and most of all, humble. I urge you to read this story because you'll come away with a whole different perspective on how strong one person can be.

I think that this book is well written, very informative, moving and enjoyable. I read it and have a different outlook on the Vietnamese that escaped from Vietnam. I spent two tours in Vietnam in Special Forces. I was in the Cam Rahn Bay area for a couple of months so I know the area that Sam talked about in his book. It reminded me of a Vietnamese Lieutenant Colonel that I served with on both tours. I am not sure how this happened. The LTC and I went up on one of the mountains in Fourth Corp and stayed for a couple of days. The LTC spoke very good English that he learned from listening to AFVN Radio. He said that Vietnam would fall to the communists if we pulled out and asked me if I would sponsor his family and him when it fell. I gave him all my contact information but never heard from him.

Sams book brought back so many memories most good but a few bad.

I highly recommend this book to everyone regardless of how you felt about the Vietnam War. It is a very good and interesting book. Sam did a great job.

I know Sam (Lien Le). We were near each other in 1969-1970, Vietnam, thou we did not know each other. I came home in an airplane when my mission was over. He escaped Vietnam by boat after the war was long over.

Now that he is here in Spokane, WA, as a very successful business man, one realizes upon reading his book what a special MAN he is.

Read his book. You will cry a river if you ever experienced this period of time in your life. Herion

The story of his life was interesting but his writing style did not hold my interest. I am sure other's were held but it just did not flow for me. He is a courageous and caring man.
