This is an excellent book! It was thought provoking and corrected some misunderstandings I had of God's great gift, even after many years of following Him. Very practical and well thought out, Dr. Jacoby gives challenging insight in a patient and thoughtful way. His points are well supported by scripture and history, as he reasons through what can be a challenging subject and some more difficult scriptures in God's Word. His experiences round it out as he shares the journey he has personally been on to understand the working of the Holy Spirit today. It is a book I expect to read again and again as I deepen my understanding and try to help others.

Having been raised charismatic and even pastored a charismatic church, I personally know the value of having a proper biblical understanding of the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Dr. Douglas Jacoby has an insightful book on the Spirit that I believe will be helpful to all disciples seeking a better understanding of the Third Person of the Trinity.

The book opens by examining the Holy Spirit from both the Old Testament and New Testament positions. Dr. Jacoby is careful to teach sound doctrine about the Spirit while clearly showing that the Spirit is not some abstract substance in the disciples life but is actually a Person involved in our Christian life. The Spirit is helping us to become more like Jesus.

The remainder of the book offers insights into more controversial aspects of the Holy Spirit from the manifestations seen in Acts to the modern charismatic movement. Dr. Jacoby is very gentle as he deals with various aspects of the charismatic movement even if he differs greatly in his understanding and teaching on the gifts of the Spirit and the baptism of the Spirit. In fact, even charismatics could learn from Jacoby.

Overall Dr. Jacoby once again takes an important teaching such as the Holy Spirit and yet biblically and practically gives us a book that is simple yet consise in its content. An easy to read book but one not afraid of teaching the truth.
