Comment: Condition Poor, reading copy only but great for that, with all reading pages present but title page is missing as is copyright page.Belonged to Boys Club in San Jose, dates from about 1905, illustrated hardobars of green with mountinas, bird, snowy trees. This tired old book was printed before the invention of dustjackets. Publisher unknown. Perhaps Grosset or Burt or another second press cheapo publisher. Id say its not a 1st edition but is from 1906 or so.Do not rely on any photographs you see with books. These can be provided by anyone and can be anything. Expect tanning to post war paperbacks. This is a gripping book that is full of adventure and suspense. Although it was written in 1906, the story is still compelling. It's still such a good story that the book has been made into a movie at least 6 times starting in 1914. I enjoy Rex Beach because although he was known as the "Victor Hugo of the North", he still spent a lot of time in my state, Florida, and his grave is located at Rollins College in Winter Park. Reading a book more than a century old by a forgotten author makes me believe I'm the only one reading the Spoilers today or on any given night. That's a shame. This is a magnificent book. It is fast paced, beautifully crafted, and just plain entertaining. I know Beach had a tragic life but he left us a good read. Maybe it's my love of the North that drew me to it but it's the story that kept me with it. One paragraph on the description of the small locomotive engine in the chapter on Dynamite is brilliant. Why don't authors write like this today?

A story of the gold rush in Alaska and claim jumpers and the fight that incurs from it. It has great characters and plenty of action with one great fist fight at the end, it also has a mistaken love story through it that was very interesting, a great book that was made into several great movies so buy and enjoy you won't be disappointed.

The story is great but I just have a hard time reading stories that are written in the "Vernacular" of the time such as Zane Grey did as well. I spend to much time working to pronounce the words.
