Too much in too short a space. Major characters appeared and disappeared without sufficient explanation. Poor nautical terminology/editing: the deck of a ship is called the deck not the floor (which seems to be an all encompassing noun for the ignorant British - deck, ground, floor, its all the same to them}.

Format: Paperback
Arguably, the most literary of the current crop of Patrick O'Brian wanna-be's, and probably the best story-teller of them. ALas, also, unquestionably, among the worst in research and understanding of the maritime aspects of the stories. In this volume, we are treated to a corvette, which makes a sharp turn and shows her GARBOARD - of all things! Does the author actually know what a garboard is? Does he imagine a sailing ship behaves like a power boat in a sharp turn? If a ship showed her garboard, escaping capture would be the least of the crew's problems! Further into the text, we are treated to brigs with mizzen masts! 32-pounder long guns for brigs and chain for anchor rodes about 25 years before they began to be introduced to the Royal Navy (ahead of any other naval force!) - these are nothing to the author. Nevertheless, I have bought them all and hope he will continue to write the Peake adventures, as they are well-written - unlike almost all other current products of the genre (Stockwin, for example, Lambdin, etc..) - and are highly entertaining. Not brilliant, but good. Nowhere close to Patrick O'Brian, of course, but more so than any of the other word-processors that pass for writers these days.

Another book in the saga of this captain. I rated all 6 books with 5 stars. Buy them all and enjoy them.
