I am so glad Whitney performed this patrotic piece at the height of her career. It is moving, spirited, and true - quintessential Whitney Houston. Enjoy!

Whitney Houston's electrifying "Star Spangled Banner" was sung at the Super Bowl when the US had just entered the war in Kuwait, the first war with Iraq. The controversies over the Persian Gulf/Iraq War notwithstanding, Whitney's rendition is patriotic, beautiful, proud. It was her shining moment. She brought a country together;this song enjoyed great popularity whether one watches football or not. This song captured Whitney at her best. She sang for the American people, not just the record labels or the pop stations. May Whitney Houston rest in peace (1963-2012)

The first time I heard Whitney Houston sing The Star Spangled Banner it sent shivers down my spine. Still does. She put herself into our National Anthem without having to use enhanced gimmicks. She apparently lip synced her performance at the Super Bowl but that doesn't detract from this fabulous performer singing this fantastic anthem. RIP
Whitney.

There is no doubt that with when anyone has tried to do The Star Spangled Banner or America The Beautiful and knocks it out of the park, it can be amazing. But for Whitney Houston doing it back in 1991, she made it more dominant than what Francis Scott Key could've ever imagined. It came on the heels of the Persian Gulf War, and hearing how bold and somber it is, sadly after Whitney had died, it is a unparalleled trademark of why someone is that strong. Whitney dominated that song beyond what words could've ever said, and that lightning in a bottle will never be replicated. I will never get over the sadness I feel without hearing the voice of our times pass on. Whitney Houston will be missed, and definitively never forgotten.

No other version before or since his made me feel the same way. Whitney nailed it. Many will try and top it, but they will fail.
