Editorial Reviews

From the Author

To the READER,

THE STASH was my first foray into writing and as such will always remain close to my heart. The thrill of sitting down to write and immersing yourself in a fictitious world was something new and exciting.

In this phase of euphoria I published the first edition of THE STASH in 2011, which one reviewer has described as the work of 'an enthusiastic teenager'. This made me chuckle, as it pretty much sums up my mood at the time, but also highlights that not enough effort went into editing the book.

After working with agents & editors on other novels the amount of editing and re-writing that is necessary to produce a polished novel became apparent and I decided that I owed it to both myself and readers to give THE STASH the attention it deserves. So here it is, after several months of re-writing and editing, the Revised Edition 2015 - I hope you enjoy!

All the best,
Dan

A note about the David Nbeke Series:
Dawn of Deception is a book that I spent years researching and writing that delves into the world of international poaching syndicates and political corruption in Kenya. The historical background of ethnic cleansing and the criminal methods employed are accurate, well documented and unfortunately continue today.

David Nbeke and the other characters are fictitious, although the evil mastermind Maliki is based on someone I met in Nairobi who had failed the lion hunt, bore the scars, and been ostracized from his tribe - unlike Maliki he was a warm and gentle soul. Although the history gives the characters more depth and motivation this is in essence a high-octane thriller as David Nbeke fights for justice and his own survival.

In the sequel, DIVIDED THEY FALL, David teams up with Clarissa May of the CIA to combat terrorists planning to blow up the American Embassies in Nairobi & Dar es Salaam - due to be released this summer!

I hope you enjoy reading Dawn of Deception and the rest of the series as much as I have enjoyed writing them!

All the best,
Dan

This was an interesting and compelling book; however, with some editorial help and some coaching, this author could take his efforts to a new and higher level. I liked the compelling manor of carrying the reader from one page to the next. I found some of the characters difficult to understand and not believable. The two primary characters, Alan and John were fairly well developed as were their ladies. More detail about background for all four would be appropriate for an effort of this length. Tunge needed some better development with efforts to get out from under his father's control. The father was not developed well and could have been better balanced. The "goons" could have been better balanced and better developed. For the most part, they did not seem human. I do hope Mr. Fletcher continues to write and develop his skill and gets some editorial help with spelling, dangling participles, misplaced punctuation and details. Grammer and spell-check could help.

I don't know who dubed this book "action-packed", they lied! Action starts about 40% into the book! The ONLY reason I stuck with it was to get to the "action-packed" section. The characters are unlikeable petty thievies with depth of a rain puddle. Thank God I only paid $.99

Even allowing for Britishisms, there is a lot left to be desired in the editing of this book. Perhaps I'm the only one who got a Kindle edition that was loaded with misspellings, poor grammar and several nonsensical phrases and/or sentences. These were stumbling blocks for me, and I did not feel the story flowed because of them. It was downright awkward in some places.

I'm not really that much of a stickler for some typos and/or errors, but the number of these errors in The Stash really detracts from the story, in my opinion.

At any rate, I do enjoy the action, and the story premise is a good one. It was a nice touch to thank your proofreader so profusely, but she really needs a brush-up course in English.

Once you start reading The Stash, you won't be able to stop as it's captivating from beginning to end! The story features some interesting main characters and consists of several intertwined plots, without ever being too confusing to the reader. The author has a very natural style of writing, which makes reading this book a real treat.

I liked the story, was easy to understand except quite a few errors, I don't really count off for that, as I know what is meant so it doesn't change the reading much, however, a little distracting. ..The story held my interest and it was hard to put the book down, lots of action...The ending left a little to be desired, but overall a good read.

Seriously, who edits this s***? Obviously someone who does not know the difference between too & to, there & their etc. Good story ruined by spelling and grammar errors. Too many Kindle books w/ errors and inaccuracies

The book did have action but was too predictable and too simplistic. The proof reading was horrible and sometimes funny. The outcome was never in doubt.

I enjoyed reading this - the author has a nice, fluent style of writing which makes it easy to follow the story. And what a great story it is! The characters are authentic and well drawn. I really took to John. The reader can see how easy it is for him to be drawn into such a tangled web when his life is so directionless and grubby! After a privileged upbringing etc, the lure of money and a better lifestyle are understandable. The reader worries for him and you depict his wrestling emotions very well. Nigeria sounds a terrifying place and the scene with Tunge meeting his father is a nasty reality check. It's ghastly to think that life can be so awful on a daily basis for people living in such a place.
Well done! I wish you luck with your book.
