This book does have fantastic, inspiring photos. It is a bit lacking in content department. If you are new to growing succulents, be aware that this is not a growing guide. The 350 easy-care plants is just a list.
The kindle edition has issues. The index is unusable. All of the plants/terms are listed, but there is no location information/page number. Hence you cannot find that term within the book. I have not been able to keyword search the text of this book either as you can with most kindle books. Also, many photographs are not on the same page as their caption. To someone who doesn't know the plants by sight, this could be quite confusing.
If the index gets fixed, I'd gladly give this book a four star review. Until then, three stars feels generous.

This is a rating of the Kindle Edition and not the book itself. I just ordered this book and was offered the Kindle Edition for 2.98 because I had purchased the hard copy. I never use Kindle but since I live abroad and the hard copy will take a month to get here I bought the Kindle Edition. I downloaded Kindle for Mac and then downloaded the e-book. For one thing there are no page numbers nor are page numbers listed in the index. You can't click on something in the index and get to the page where the item is found. The book is divided into sections or topics and you can select which section of the book you wish to view. However within each section you have to go page by page to see what is covered by each section. I find the Kindle Edition much less useful than a hard copy. Of course you can't thumb through it like a hard copy which is something you would expect but there needs to be some substitute for that. On the positive side the print and photos are clear and easy to read or view. The problem is to find what you are looking for within the book is very difficult. I appreciate the fact that Amazon has an enormous selection of books and a great website but something has to be done about the use-ability of their Kindle Edition books if they are ever to replace hard copy books. I think the book itself is great and will be happy when I receive my hard copy. I would recommend that you pay extra for the hard copy and forget about the Kindle Edition.

2/8/2014. Today I received the hard copy of this book and like most other reviewers I would give the hard copy 5 stars. My advice would be to completely avoid kindle editions of these kinds of books. I will say that the print is very legible with kindle books so something like a novel might work quite well.

I simply love the way the author introduces the reader about succulent gardening. The images simply draws the reader to appreciate the beauty of these amazing plants. It makes you realize that you need not need to wait for a plant to flower in order to appreciate it's beauty. The clustering of these plants in the appropriate container brings out the beauty in nature in the way a floral bouquet does. I am inspired to create a container of these succulents using the small collection that I already own. The information provided is definitely very useful for an amateur like myself.
Would definitely recommend others to read this book.

I chose this for the beautifully inspiring pictures, but I read it cover to cover and learned so much about care of and design with succulents. Baldwin's book has given me so many idea of where to go with all these beautiful, low-maintenance plants.
