5.0 out of 5 stars "Travel Stick" Convenient size and good results August 22, 2011

I purchased "The Stick" (Travel Stick model) after previously purchasing the Marathon Stick model, which is slightly longer. I loved the Marathon Stick, and wanted a smaller model to fit in my gym bag for use right before and after workouts. Both of these massage sticks work great... easy to use do-it-yourself massage, can be used on almost any muscle group, and works well for loosening up tight muscles and tendons. My physical therapist recommended a massage stick for my tight calves, Achilles tendon, and IT band... really happy with both sticks! Before you buy, you might want to check out The Stick website to see all 15 or so Stick models so that you can choose the right one for your needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent massager. July 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this on the recommendation of my personal trainer, and it is excellent for massaging my legs. The length is perfect for me. There are 8 beads, each about 1 inch in length, for 8 inches to massage with. The handles are just a little wider than my hands, so I can get a firm grip without having too much extra length getting in the way.

This is a great massager for anybody that has leg cramps. I love it after working out, especially after a leg workout with lifting. Its especially good when my calves are cramping up after lifting or cardio.

I am a licensed massage therapist, so my neck and back are always in pain at the end of the day. I opened the package, looked at the simple instructions of how and where to use, and after ten minutes of using it, I feel amazing. I was working all day today, and now i feel like I just woke up. I would recommend it to anyone!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing for plantar fasciitis November 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I normally don't write reviews, but am hoping this one can help someone. I got this product to work out cramping I have had on my calfs. I have had a pretty bad case of plantar fasciitis over the last 6 months as well. I had to actually use a cane to get around some. Embarassing for a 45 yeard old I would say. My leg cramps in the middle of the night were really bad. To make a long story short, I got this in the mail the other day, used it for about 15 minutes while watching tv. (made my 13 year old go get it from the UPS guy at the front door.) I was amazed. I just sat there and rolled it up and down on the painful areas. I got instant relief. I was able to put pressure on my heal without much pain right away. I have been doing it for the last server days and continue to find new knots that I am working out. I still have some tightness in my calfs but that is slowly going away. Too cool. The plantar fasciitis seems to be going away quickly too. I am blown away that it could be that simple. This product does seem to hold up well. Good luck.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product with caveat December 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Greetings! I have had this product only a few days. It came in quite handy as I found myself with very sore legs after making an infrequent appearance on a tennis court. I used this on one leg and nothing on the other. I can say that using this definitely helped reduce soreness and stiffness compared to the non-treated leg. The bar is fairly flexible, but you can get a stiffer ride by using it closer to the handle; the most flex is when you use the center of the bar.

I do have one caveat that someone else complained about - the smell. This is due to a design flaw. This is made of simple plastic and if you push harder/longer, the rubbing plastic rollers against the axle cause heat and the smell. I think I got around this by spraying some Pyroil Silicone Lubricant Spray - 10 oz. on the axle through the wheels and then wiping off the excess that dripped. DO NOT USE WD40 or other oil-based lubricant - I don't think these go well with most plastics (it might corrode it over time).

Overall I like this, though I think they are overpriced given their fairly cheap construction. Having said that, if it lasts me a couple of years, I'll consider it worth the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, but smells bad... October 3, 2010

As a runner, I'm always sore. This stick does a good job of smoothing out the achy and stiff areas and seems to help me recover quicker. The size is great (I haul it in my backpack to work). My only criticism (as others have pointed out) is the handle smell. I've tried cleaning it, airing it out, nothing works. The smell gets on your hands when you use it so I always have to wash after. Makes my wife nauseous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product January 14, 2009
I've been having terrible calf strain from running and other various activities. I got the stick for Christmas and it has been amazing! The best time to use it is directly after exercising to get the lactic acid moving to help prevent sore muscles. I also take it into the shower with me and use it after I've been in about 10-15 minutes (or warm up my muscles with a heating pad prior to rolling). I wouldn't use this on "cold" muscles. All-in-all it is a great product. I also have a foam roller I got from the sports store which works great on tight IT Bands and sore hamstrings.
