Book Description

July 5, 2011

This book is about Sally Kern, District 84 House of Representatives member from Oklahoma, and her desire to see America return to the conservative principles that guided the nation’s founders. In January 2008, the pastor’s wife and former high school teacher gave a speech to a Republican club in Oklahoma City explaining that the founding fathers believed Christian principles would lead to a civilized society, individual self-government, good citizens, the elevation of learning, and a cohesive value system. While explaining the fifth benefit, a cohesive value system, she told of a group of wealthy homosexual activists who threatened the nation’s moral fabric by attempting to unseat seventy conservative politicians who opposed their agenda. Clips from the speech later were posted on YouTube, generating more than 2 million hits and leading to what she describes as a media “stoning.” That didn’t stop her from winning re-election or from continuing her calls for America to return to the conservative principles that made it great. In this book she warns that there is danger ahead if social conservatives don’t preserve the nation’s foundations of morality, truth, and tolerance. She issues a cry for conservatives to stand for their freedom now before they no longer have the right to do so.

About the Author

Sally Kern was first elected to the Oklahoma State House of Representatives on November 2, 2004. Sally and her husband, Dr. Stephen D. Kern, a Southern Baptist minister, were married in 1970 and have two grown sons, one daughter-in-law, and one grandson. Prior to her election, Sally taught school about 20 years. Since Sally is an educator, her priorities in the House revolve around education, and she has served on various education-related committees in the House. Sally received a B.A. in sociology from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1971 and received her teacher certification in social studies with an emphasis in government from East Texas State University in 1986. After her first session in office, Sally was voted “Outstanding Lawmaker of the Year 2005” by the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee (OCPAC) for her conservative voting record. In April of 2008, Sally was honored as the first ever recipient of the Family Research Council’s (FCR) “Champion of Faith, Family, and Freedom Award.”

2.0 out of 5 stars Sally Kern Must Get Stoned September 8, 2012
By Lady A
Format:Hardcover
Listen, I frankly haven't read the book, but here is Sally Kern's statement which she describes as a "stoning", from the YouTube clip this book is based upon, with some basic factual comments to the side in case you couldn't figure it out on your own: (let me preface this by saying, I am a Christian and an evangelist, and I am without respite a wretched servant of our Lord, God, and if I felt this did not serve Him I would not spend the time putting it together here)

"Studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than a few decades." (except for some of our longest lasting cultures, such as Greece, Rome, Congo, Egypt, Aztec, Maya, Zapotec, Thailand, the Celts, Persia, and New Guinea, all of which have a history of tolerated and even ENCOURAGED homosexual activity-- this is a fact)

"So it's the death knell, in this country. I think it's the biggest threat, even, that our nation has. Even more so than terrorism, or Islam, which I think is a big threat, okay." (laughter in the background at this point, and if this doesn't pop out as questionable then stop reading my comment, because you are officially apathetic to idiocy)

"'Cause what's happening now, they're going after, uh, in schools, two year olds." (they're attacking our child prodigies!!? Yeah, very few two year olds in school...)

"You know why they're trying to get early childhood education? They want to get our young children into the government schools so they can indoctrinate them." (ACTUAL studies have shown early childhood education to be extremely helpful in children's intellectual and emotional development, as well as reducing the strain on parents to pay for childcare)

"I taught school for close to twenty years, and we're not teaching facts and knowledge any more, folks. We're teaching indoctrination." (wow, you accomplished that in just twenty years??)

"And they're going after our children, as young as two years of age, to try to teach them that the homosexual lifestyle is an acceptable lifestyle." (There's that two years thing again, and living in this uber-liberal dreamscape where homosexuality is somehow approved by society, which living in the Northeast I have never seen at ALL)

If this dissemination truly offends you, feel free to report my comment if you would like, but I think it's important to understand that this is self-published through a vanity publisher, which is a nice way of saying she had to put this book out there because no reputable publisher would touch it. It's also important to understand that in publishing a book with the title "The Stoning of Sally Kern", she is proclaiming herself a martyr (ie, someone who has died as a result of their professed faith in God), which is shaming in its own and I believe would be disapproved by God as she is in no way a martyr. Thirdly, this "stoning" was in fact her own loose use of words, to get a conservative base excited about her hard anti-gay agenda.

Homosexuality is a sin. There is no doubt of it, it is stated multiple times in the Bible and valid arguments can be made otherwise but the foundations of that statement remain. But Jesus taught us to love our neighbor, and even moreso our enemy. The mass approval of homosexuality is a myth, the vast majority of our population is quite homophobic, and that is not a Christian way to act. Sally Kern holds herself up as a prophet, as a martyr, and presents herself as a false idol. I don't know if any Jews are reading, but I believe that based on the Law in the Torah and Old Testament that this calls for an ACTUAL stoning of Sally Kern.

1.0 out of 5 stars Twisting the Word of God June 23, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Wow, as a Protestant Minister, I have read a number of twisted false biblical interpretations. But, this venom filled, self serving, diatribe really takes the cake. I have never seen so much misinformation in one place served up with so much hate. No wonder this is a vanity press book, I cannot imagine any legitimate publisher giving this a second look. Stay away from this tripe if you believe at all in the all powerful love of God!

Sally Kern's brand of conservatism includes: 1) Homosexuals are a greater threat to America then the 9-11 terrorists, 2) Blacks earn less then whites because they don't work hard, 3) Women earn less because they want more time off, 4) Requiring science classes to teach creationsim, 5) Trying to deny libraries funding for not segregating certain types of books. She called for the resignation for Anthony Weiner while giving Senator David Vitter a pass. Apparently Kern only applies her Christian conservatism to non-Republicans. Where others complain about too much government intervention in our lives, Kern has no problem trying to legislate her way into your private life while denying equality to all of our citizens.

While Sally Kern has her first amendment right to free speech, Representative Kern does not have the right to abuse her power as a Legislator to force her views of the people of Oklahoma. We live in a Democracy not a theocratic toltarian country.

I would recommend this book only if you want to see how bigotry, racism, and hypocricy is alive in well in Christian conservatism.
