This book has been closely analysed by me and my fellow students at Vesalius College in Brussels. My oppinion was that Mrs.Mallard was delighted to be freed from her husband. According to my teacher and some students she really loved her husband but I would strongly disagree. She hated him and saw the opportunity of finally living her own life. "Spring days, and summer days, and all sorts of days that would be her own" Doesn't that sentence say it all? Please correct me if I am wrong.

At first I thought it was the husband had died but it was the wife. For those who read this the first time pay attention to the words that is when you will notice that she is dead. The whispers that she hears are angels.

Chopin packs a lot of emotion in this short story. The theme of freedom is important to Mrs. Mallard when she learns her husband died in a railroad accident. She admits that she is looking forward to being free "body and soul" which emphasizes her repressive state of her marriage. Highly recommended short story.

It is an extremely short story, but it is wonderfully written and it took me through multiple moods. The ending, which I won't disclose, is a gem.
Perhaps somewhat disappointing, she finally had her moment of freedom. Good read, although too short.

Timeless truth . And as most Truth, mostly ignored , disbelieved, and denied. Should be published in all women's magazines and featured in sports and fishing periodicals . Maybe men could learn about love and women could learn about courage .(

The story was recommended to me. I enjoy short stories, this one is very short, but full. I like that there is so much that happens in so few pages. Great one, in my opinion.

Loved it but wish there was more. Amazing how Chopin can sum up a life in so few words. I can' wait to explore more of her writings.
