This oddball little book is easy to overlook, unless of course you know of a certain Creepy Chan. Then it might interest you.

Model/ artist Allison Harvard (Creepy Chan) illustrates this children's book, written by Liza Kuznetsova, and her peculiar art style stands out. Children's book illustrations commonly are strange, don't get me wrong, yet this was unique in a dark and eerie way new to me. Guess that's Allison's touch. So the art is interesting, sure, but there isn't much in this short book - five or six pieces at most. If that's all you're here for, I'd recommend skipping over this and browsing Harvard's art online, unless you have the money to spend.

The plot plays out like a fairy tale of sorts. Being a children's book, it's easy reading and really not too much food for thought. It's a tale simply meant to entertain and captivate, and for its target younger audience it may do just that. Just expect it to go by quick.

Oh yes, and if you're thinking about getting this for a child, I'd like to point out that once or twice this story gets kind of morbid. For example, a portion of it tells of a war, and Kuznetsova writes how (and I don't quote exactly) worms would feast on the rotting corpses. Assuming this is for children, I feel getting carried away in details in such a manner was careless on the author's part, but no one gets it right the first time I guess. So maybe not for your four or five year old.

Bottom line - a descent but ultimately forgettable children's book. An odd little artifact that will probably spend its lifetime collecting dust, save for maybe some strange late nights. I would recommend purchasing only for Allison's most dedicated followers, or art enthusiasts that have a couple bucks to throw away.
