I'm a writer, so I used this product more as a prompt than as a game.

And the Storymatic was created by a teacher, so I can only imagine how great it would be in the classroom.

I use the Storymatic primarily as a free-writing tool to kick-start the creative juices before I dive into my current writing project. I've been constantly amazed at the lack of good writing exercise books and resources on the market. The few resources I've seen have been very narrow or limited, and those I've tried out, I've worked through or gotten bored with quickly.

I don't have this problem with the Storymatic. The 500 cards give a writer limitless sources of inspiration. The enclosed booklet offers some interesting suggestions for how you might use it. Tool around a bit and see which suggestion works best for you. I tend to stick with "the classic," but I've had pretty interesting results with some of the others as well.

I've also brought it out during our "game nights." Competitive storytelling makes for a fun evening with friends. And the Storymatic was created by a teacher, so I can only imagine how great it would be in the classroom.

The Storymatic is a terrific tool for anyone interested in telling stories. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I got this as a gift and after dinner that night we decided to use it as a storytelling contest--it was a blast. It's an incredibly simple-seeming idea, but the variety and peculiarity of the prompt cards wind up being incredible idea generators. My friend who gave it to me is a writer, and says he finds it helpful for writers block or just as a kickstarter. I think it could be great for teachers as well.

What a joy to have a fun game for all ages that lets us use and develop our creative and storytelling skills. The prompt cards help to stimulate our imaginations which are easily dulled by today's obsession with everything electronic. A great present for friends and yourself.

I've been using the Storymatic to kickstart creative writing projects. It has definitely helped with my writer's block. It's easy to use, can be adapted to nearly any genre, and, as advertised, can be used for millions of combinations of cards. I like it so much I've ordered both the Storymatic Kids and Storymatic: Colonial Williamsburg Edition to go along with the classic version. :)

Great coffee table item for conversation starters, awesome for kids and adults, and helpful to writers AND improv comedy folks alike.

This has SOOOO many ideas that it helps me to write, practice, and of course to come up with random suggestions when we get together to practice for our IMPROV COMEDY group. I like that the author has various ways for you to use the deck included in the booklet inside the box, and find that this added fun to the set. It does just what it says, giving you ideas to spawn new ones. If you want to step it up a notch, use it at bedtime with the kiddies to tell each other a story that you make up on the spot. Such fun!

EXAMPLE of some of the suggested games/uses for the cards from the booklet:
A) WHATCHOO WANT?
The key to creating good characters is to make them want something.
-- Draw one gold card. Suppose you draw "department store Santa". Say to yourself, "What does this character really, really want to be instead?
-- Answer that question by drawing a second gold card. Suppose you draw "surgeon".
-- Tell the story
-- When you finish that story, start another!

B) OBSTACLE
A character who works to achieve a goal is usually more interesting than one who wants something and simply gets it.
-- Continue WHATCHOO WANT by asking, "What is preventing my character from achieving this goal?"
-- Answer the question by drawing a copper card. Suppose you draw "police investigation"
-- Tell the story.
