I first heard (and saw) this trio from Lancaster, Pennsylvania at the is year's Philadelphia Folk Fest and made it a point to catch every stage or workshop they attended. I was reminded of the feeling many years ago when another young trio - Nickel Creek - came to the Philly Folk Fest and gave me the same "they are going to go places" feeling. Just last week, I was in Nashville for the Americana Music Conference and there they were, on the stage of the legendary Station Inn, wowing the audience, many of who were seeing them for the first time.

This album was released in 2012 but new fans are finding it after they see the trio live. That was the case with me. For an independent production on their own label, this is an impressive production. The sound is great from Track 1. All the songs are originals with the lone female in the group, Maya de Vitry, penning six of the 11 songs, and Oliver Craven composing the rest. The third member, Charles Meunch, plays bass and banjo in the group. There's one instrumental track - a medley of three songs - with the balance being vocals.

If the burden of touring doesn't affect the band members - and the word which is spreading through the folk community continues, this band has a big future in both folk and Americana field. Check out samples and see for yourself.

The Cd comes in a simple digipak with only acknowledgements and track personnel listings inside. The lyrics are so wonderful, I wish they had included them, but maybe on the next one, which I hope will be soon.

I hope this review was both informative and helpful.

"I can taste his kiss, so sweet on the wind, like wildflower honey...." "I dream in blue...I drown in dew..." "Can you reach me? Will you try?"

This album is a perfect combination of the sad and the beautiful. Poetical lyrics, delicious harmony. I've listened to it over and over again and I love it more every time!

My uncle stumbled onto this band last summer via the internet. I have went to see them three times since and cannot wait to see them again. Their sound never tires or gets old, it's fresh and crisp like a ripe apple waiting to be picked and eaten. You can listen to the songs over and over. I am so excited about watching these "young but old souls" rise to fame. I haven't been this excited about new music in a long time but the vocals, harmony and words draw you into their world, captivate you and lift your spirit high! Get both CDS, and tell your friends about "The Stray Birds", as they soar to the top!

I heard part of this album on a streaming radio station and took notice. My favorite song is Dream in Blue.

I had the great good fortune to see this band live, here in Texas. They are tremendously talented musicians who are passionate about their craft. However, the harmonies and musicianship I witnessed did not translate as well into the studio setting. The vocals are not as tight and rich, the chords don't "lock" and the ethereal nature of the lead singer's voice is just not captured here, which is a shame.

I bought this for my mom and she and I both like the CD alright. I heard The Stray Birds on A Prairie Home Companion and enjoyed them. I listened to their song clips online and enjoyed the folksy banjo and fiddle, but a few of their songs are more modern country for my tastes. The CD cover was a bit flimsy, but if you're a fan of country/folk this is worth the small price for some very lovely music.

"I dream of blue" is a most hypnotically beautiful song from a group that is really very young indeed, although all of the members have wind behind their sails. Each is a talented instrumentalist (although they don't play each of their instruments equally well), and Maya de Vitry is a strong, budding singer-songwriter. They are now touring heavily; and they are the kind of group that's best seen live.

If they hang together long enough, I think they'll mint some classics.

Love these guys!
This album is earlier than their latest Best Medicine, and some of the songs seem a bit less polished (which is perfectly fine). Several slower songs as well, but the vocal harmonies and musicality of these guys is still incredible. Love listening to them, and since seeing them perform (and photographing them) at the Folk Alliance International festival in Kansas City, I've become a huge fan. Absolutely LOVE Maya's beautiful and at times haunting vocals.
