Editorial Reviews

The Street Stops Here is a portrait of the nation s best high school basketball coach, Bob Hurley, Sr. and his career-long struggle to inspire and motivate those around him in order to keep the doors of a poor, inner-city Catholic school open. This is a story about teenagers fighting their way out of the hood, armed with little more than a basketball and the hard wisdom of a fierce, demanding coach. For 35 years, Hurley has led St. Anthony his way. He s an uncompromising teacher who demands perfection from kids who ve known little discipline growing up on the streets of Jersey City. His methodical, yet volatile style works miracles. He s tallied 900-plus victories for a school that s won 24 state championships. Hurley s sent all but two of the hundreds of players he s coached to college, a feat that truly shows what matters to him most. This season, Hurley faces challenges that will test his resolve. The most talented senior class he s ever assembled, with six seniors headed to Division 1 schools, is about to graduate without having won a state championship something that has never happened to one of his teams. Even more dire, a financial crisis threatens to close the high school he s dedicated his life to. Intimate and inspiring, The Street Stops Here is the story of a man s lifelong commitment to improve the lives of inner city kids and save the poor high school that gives them hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating story of basketball and life April 15, 2010
This documentary is a fascinating story about basketball and life. Being a former basketball player and a huge fan of the game, I fully appreciate the effort expended by players, coaches, and families to do what it takes to develop college-level players. Coach Hurley has worked to develop dozens and dozens of them, including many Division I players. Beyond basketball, this documentary will touch the hearts and nerves of viewers interested in a wide variety of topics, from inner city schools to broken families to the heros of our nation in the form of principals and coaches who will not take no for an answer from their students, their players, or society at large. The key people at St. Anthony High School will stop at nothing to help these kids break out of their uninspired past and to show them the possibility of something else. The book, Miracle at St. Anthony, which tells the same story as the documentary, is a must read for anyone who is inspired by a great sports story. This story is one of the greatest....and it is still happening today.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Documentary was Very Influential!! April 1, 2010
I watched the documentary last night and I wish my son was watching with me, he is in a boarding school. Im going to order the video for him. This video is all "Tough Love". Coach Hurley does not play and no kid should take it personally. Kids in this society think its all about how they look and need to carry a grudge on there shoulder, but coach Hurley does not tolerate it! I see alot of respect for this coach, I think its because they saw him as a father figure and somewhere they can feel safe, unlike the streets or even sometimes at home.

I suggest that every parent buy this, especially if there kids think there is no hope and not taking life serious.

St Anthony I think this will be a great way to fund for the school, you guys deserve it!!! Keep it up Coach!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gave Up More To Be More November 24, 2012

Bob Hurley, Sr. could have been patrolling the sidelines of a major college basketball program, but instead had remained at St. Anthony's to guide wayward youth and teach them valuable life lessons. This is an exceptional documentary, featuring an exceptional leader of young men.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! November 5, 2012

This dvd is about the true story of a man trying to use basketball to clean up the streets. He uses his insight to inspire and encourage at-risk teens to clean up their "stink'n think'n" and take responsibility for their life choices. This documentary also infuses a LOT of real life basketball facts and history. A very educational and inspiring dvd.
