Product Description

Platform: PC | Edition: Standard

The Strike combines authentic environments based on real lakes, engaging gameplay with accurate fish and lure behaviors, and a highly interactive fishing pole controller that allows players an immersive fishing adventure. Players can enjoy 3 different game-play modes including Quick Fish, Career and Bass Pro Shops Invitational Tournament, or compete with friends in mini games like boat races and casting challenges.  The lifelike fishing pole peripheral lets the player cast, jig, set the hook, and fight as if a real fish were on the other end of the line. The game takes players to some of North America’s most famous fishing hot spots and features eleven types of game fish including Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Striped Bass as well as Northern Pike and Muskie.  In addition, realistic lake bottom topography, real-time time–of-day light effects, advanced graphics, and authentic fishing gear from the Bass Pro Shops stores, all combine to offer virtual anglers the most comprehensive fishing game experience to-date.

3.0 out of 5 stars The fish are on strike August 9, 2010

Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I consider myself to be a decent fisherman. I have been fishing since I was a little kid and my favorite type of fishing is bass fishing. I love to study on how to use different lures and I used to always catch bass masters saturday morning on ESPN. I had this game called "Championship Bass" I used to play on the computer all the time in college. So, one day I was itching to play some fishing and I looked up fishing games on line and I saw this little gem.

My order came really quick, so I popped in my computer and fired it up. For PC users, the mouse does work in place of the fishing rod. I was a little worried about that. So I hopped in the boat and started scooting around the lake. This was a lot of fun. I also preceded to crash into another fishermans boat at 35 mph. He had no reaction which sadly was not what i was hoping for. I then decided to find a weeded bank and work my way down it. No fish. So I drove around until it popped up in the fish finder. Stopped and fished. Nothing. I didn't even see a fish in the water. After another two hours I didn't see one fish. Now I can understand realism, but if I wanted true realism, I'd take a boat out. When you play a video game, you do it for the fun factor.

So then, I found my copy of championship bass, popped in my laptop to see if it would work with vista, and bam. It did. That game starts you out fishing right away. The fish are challenging to catch but you can see them. And you don't go 5 minutes without hooking one. Then it showed me how difficult "The Strike" was to play. With the strike you can't see around the lure, to see where the fish are. Championship Bass (CB) shows you the whole entire area around your lure so you can spot fish. The strike, there is...well no strike. There isn't even fish carrying picket signs. It's a rather boring game, though the graphics are beautiful. I recommend buying championship bass by EA sports. It's really cheap and it's an awesome game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Fishing Game ever December 26, 2010
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Just received this game for the Xbox 360 for Christmas with the Rod/Reel controller & have to say it's the best fishing game I ever played. I highly recommend the rod/reel controller as it gives you the real feel of fish fighting & when the fish run if you aren't holding the handle it actually turns backward as the fish take out line. The only thing I didnt like were the instructions,We couldn't figure out how to cast,we read & reread the directions,we ended up searching online & found a Youtube video that explained it much better, after that it was nonstop fun. The directions dont explain what the 2 indicators on the screen mean, eventually we figured it out,one shows a hook which turns green as a fish is approaching & the other is a green bar that displays the drag setting. Played it 6hrs straight on Christmas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Xbox 360 Rod Controller Works on the PC October 9, 2009
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Standard
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
For anyone wondering if the Xbox 360 rod controller will work on the PC, it does.
The controller works just as it does on the Xbox 360 with no setup required, just plug and play.
However DO NOT update the drivers for the device through Windows Update, the latest driver breaks the casting function of the controller, stick with the default driver.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beware Rod not included October 5, 2009
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Standard
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Even though the description says there is a rod controller there isn't. The rod is only for the XBox 360 or Wii. I had to contact Bass Pro Shops directly to verify this. Sellers and reviewers all say it comes with the PC version but for under $30 I was skeptical. The game is the best fishing game I have played but it would have been better with the rod controller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of the PC version October 9, 2010
Platform for Display:PC|Edition:Standard
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I am a pretty hardcore PC gamer, so I was a bit taken aback by the total lack of video options with this game. It just defaults to whatever setting automatically, and there is no menu option to change it. The graphics engine looks decent enough, and looks like it should be capable of supporting simple graphics options, but it does not allow you to change anything. That said, I guess it looks decent enough, although my computer is capable of running it at much higher quality.

And it runs very smoothly, and plays nicely. Caught my first fish in 20 minutes, but did not manage to reel him in. I'm not a real-life fisherman, and this is my first PC fishing sim, so take that into account. I also had to look at the game's manual (PDF file only, no paper manual) to figure out the basic mechanics, but the instructions were clear, and I was fishing in a matter of minutes. Mouse control works just fine, as do all other controls. This is pretty fun actually, considering that I wasn't knowing what to expect when I bought it. But I can see where there is some skill involved in playing this game, so I expect to get better with practice.

Aside from the lack of graphical options, the environments do look pleasant, and it's fun to drive the boat to wherever I decide to fish. The entire experience is quite relaxing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bass fishing in the UK March 2, 2010
Platform for Display:PC| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
When I start to run the game a dialogue box pops up telling me my laptop is below spec & asking whether to run or not clicking on OK continues with the game albeit a little jerky through the opening screens and response times on the mouse a little delayed. The graphics are excellent and it is the best fishing game I have tried and I have tried a few. The xbox version of this comes with a printed manual, as with most PC software, this has the manual in PDF format on the disk. I have the Strike fishing controller but Windows 7 updated the drivers automatically making it useless. I am now looking forward to the Xbox version being available in European format so I can see & play this at it's best.
