Product Description

Platform: PC

The Crusades were over. The perils of the dark ages were barely passing. It was the best of times and the worst of times. The Middle Ages spanned 1066 to 1485AD and spawned legends of King Arthur, Robin Hood, and many others. The life of all the classes was dominated by the feudal system. Romanticism, greed, magic, dominance and gut survival blended amidst feudal battles from one castle to another. The Feudal System was introduced to England following the invasion and conquest of the country by William The Conqueror. The Normans from the time they first settled there around 900AD had used the system in France. It was a simple, but effective system, where all land was owned by the King. The largest portion was kept by the King as his personal property, some was given to the church and the rest was leased out under strict controls. The King allowed those he could trust to lease land. These became Barons. They were wealthy, powerful and had complete control of the land they leased. You're a Baron. The Stronghold Collection brings together five games from the critically acclaimed real-time strategy (RTS) series that allows players to conquer the Middle Ages. The Stronghold series has become one of the most popular dynamic castle building sim games in the world, combining the finest aspects from the city builder and RTS genres. Prepare yourself for a back-in-time visit to the Middle Ages and see how your expertise, wile, and guile help you survive or fail. The Stronghold Collection combines historically accurate castle construction, management, and authentic medieval combat. Players journey to lands of brave warriors, epic legends and fearsome weaponry, where they will build and fortify fortresses; lay siege to intrepid enemies; and conquer harsh terrains. The Stronghold Collection includes the following games:

5.0 out of 5 stars Four Classic Games for the Price of One May 9, 2010
Platform for Display:PC|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
If you've never played the Stronghold games before you're in for a treat. This classic castle building sim will have you thinking medieval 24/7. The four games focus on unique aspects of gameplay and so all four are very playable. The original game focuses on building large armies and economies. Crusader Extreme raises the stakes by moving the battle to the Arabian desert and allowing armies of thousands of troops. Stronghold II focus on detail and management. And Legends adds a fantasy aspect encountered in the other titles. Best of all, the entire collection is DRM free. No worrking about install limits or scratched disks. When you buy the Stronghold collection, these games are yours to keep!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Stronghold Fans July 8, 2010
Platform for Display:PC|Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I have been a Stronghold fan since I bought a trial CD for the first Stronghold game many years ago. This pack comes with all the games you can't find elsewhere. Stronghold and II and Stronghold Crusader, and Crusader Extreme, and Stronghold Legends. I like Stronghold, and Stronghold II especially, although I think some of the graphics were better in the first one than the second one. The games offer the ability to play an economic story progression or a military one. You can also do a free build. My sons enjoy Crusader more than the originals because of the new troops available. Legends allows you to play as King Arthur among others, and adds suck troop options as Ice Giants and dragons.

It offers many hours of play and is a great RTS game. I would recommend to anyone who likes this kind of game.

A nice collection of games that actually work on Win7 and NO nasty DRM. Maybe EA and Ubisoft should take note and stop putting DRM,s in theyre games.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's like being in the middle ages again! April 29, 2012
Platform for Display:PC
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The Stronghold series is, in a word incredible, but there are a few negetives. I'm a HUGE fan of RTS (real time stratagey) games like this. It all started when I got Age of Mythology at a elementary school a few years ago (I am only 13)then I got Age of Empires Gold Edtion (Age of Empires, Age of Empires The Rome Expansion, Age of Empires II the Age of Kings & Age of Empires II the Conquers Expasion)and then I got this. This game trumps ALL OTHER GAMES I HAVE!! (don't get me wrong I still love the Age of Empires series.) Ok so enough about Age of Empires, lets talk about Stronghold. I am going to give you some info about each gam in the series ( except Stronghold III since I don't have it yet.)

Stronghold
This is the first game in te series, as you might have noticed. This is the game that started it all. There are 2 campaings to chose from, Military or Economic.I perfer the Military campaign for 2 reasons, 1. Its the main campaign, 2. I am better at military stuff like that. The story is that you are in England (naturally) and there are 4 lords that are in control, (you will find out these guys real names in the campaign) the Rat, the Snake, the Pig, and the Wolf. And you must wipe them all out & at the same time keep a strong hold (no pun intended) on your counties.
Troops
This is a guide to all the troops you will be useing in the games.
Archer: standard long-range troops, pretty good versus spearmen, other archers, some siege engines, monks, and ok against macemen. Don't use archers against pikemen, swordsmen, and espicially knights. Do not, I repeat DO NOT use archers against knights unles you have A TON of them. I would recomend putting them on towers with braziers to light pitch diches and fore fameing arrows at seige engines.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is by far the best RTS i have ever played, i played this as a small child many years ago , with my older brother, and since then lost it. I recently asked my brother if he remember this game and i found it, i am overjoyed with gaming right now. Because this is my favorite game ever since i can remeber.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great. October 22, 2013

This game can be very frustrating. It is much easier to navigate around Age of Empires. This compass system really is a pain. Additionally, if I could get my hands on the guy who keeps telling me "people are leaving..." I would put him on the front line with no weapon! Also in Age of Empires you can put your army in segments and number the segment so when you need archers for example to relocate you click the number and where you want them and they move. In this game you need to go find archers, hi-lite them and then get them to move. Finally, there should be more than one acceptable solution. In one episode there were 2 blocks. 1. pay gold and 2 eliminate all enemy forces. After an hour of killing everything they sent ( about 600 or more) they were still coming and the only way to pay the gold was to chop trees which were only worth 2000 and you needed 10000.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 6 year old son loves this February 25, 2011
Platform for Display:PC|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
My son loves castles and swords and everything related to Knights. Well, what boy at 6 doesn't. I bought this figuring I could play it, and have him watch, and slowly have him take over. Well i was wrong. After booting it up the first time, he started clicking around, and is totally addicted to the re-enactment castle seiges and defenses. He's done parts of the campaign, and may I even say it's helping him as he learns basic reading skills.
Of course the only problem is limiting his time playing this and asking him to turn it off without a negative reaction.........but overall for the price- an incredible purchase value.
