Several televanglists talk about demons infiltrating every aspect of life, but this book argues that (gasp) to be human is to suffer and not all of life's troubles are from demons.

The book takes a psychological, historical, and theological approach to this issue. The psychological approach explains the parts of the human psyche and how each is effected in every day life outside of demons. It also explains how psychological disorders, such as multiple personality disorder, can be misdiagnosed as demon possession. In this approach, the author also tells of personal experiences with misdiagnosis and bizarre stories of clients with supposed demon possession, furthering his point that he has seen from experience demons being credited with symptoms that require professional treatment.

The historical approach is mentioned only briefly, though it is interesting in that it goes through other cultures' methods of exorcism, some of which used cow dung.

The theological approach uses the classic REST model. From here, the author ties in concepts form reason, experience, and tradition that provides alternative explainations other than demon possession. In the Scripture section, the author tackles classical verses used to support the notion that demons can possess Christians - which is really the crux of the book. The exegesis of these verses is insightful and surprisingly fair, NOT extreme liberal insanity, which is what I expected.

Overall, the author explicitly states several times that he could be wrong, but here are the reasons that have lead him to believe what he does. If anyone has read "The Bondage Breaker" and felt that something was a "little" off in that theology (like myself), then this is a must read.

A well thought out, Biblically based treatise on spiritual warfare. A must read for those holding onto false ideas and pseudo thinking about demon possession. I highly recommend that anyone who struggles with 'thoughts of demon possession' will read this book. If so, I'm certain that they will gain a much better understanding of God's protective grace for His people and come to a realization that the ultimate spiritual battle has already been 'won' {at the cross}!
