Rush - ReDISCovered Unboxing Video

Rush – Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart – is without question one of the most inventive and compelling groups in rock history, equally famed for both its virtuoso musicianship and provocative songwriting.

Just last year, a career-chronicling Rolling Stone feature praised the band for its continuing artistic vitality, noting that “It’s true that Rush ... Read more in Amazon's Rush Store

Editorial Reviews

This year's celebration of Rush continues with the highly anticipated release of a remixed version of the band 2002's album VAPOR TRAILS. In 2009, two tracks from VAPOR TRAILS ( One Little Victory and Earthshine ) were remixed for the Retrospective III collection, setting fans into a frenzy in anticipation of a possible remixed version of the entire album being released one day. Four years later, that day is finally approaching.

"Vapor Trails was an album made under difficult and emotional circumstances - sort of like Rush learning how to be Rush again - and as a result, mistakes were made that we have longed to correct. David Bottrill's remixes have finally brought some justice and clarity to this deserving body of our work, says Geddy Lee.

"Every song has been given a new life, from the fire of One Little Victory, Secret Touch, and Ceiling Unlimited to the melodic musicality of Sweet Miracle and How It Is ... these songs have been redeemed. Thank you David!"

The remixed version of VAPOR TRAILS will also be included in the new 7-disc boxed set THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1989-2007, which features every studio album Rush recorded for Atlantic Records. The collection includes the Gold & Platinum albums Presto (1989), Roll The Bones (1991), Counterparts (1993), and Test For Echo (1996), as well as their covers EP Feedback (2004) and the Billboard Top 5 album Snakes & Arrows (2007). THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1989-2007 features each album presented in a wallet sleeve that faithfully reproduces the original artwork (except for VAPOR TRAILS, which features a reinterpreted version of the original cover) and is available on October 1st from Atlantic/Rhino.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! September 30, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
After Sectors 1-3 I was wishing there would be a Sector 4, especially with Rush's new found respect. When I head these albums would be remastered for digital I new the wish was coming true. However, it got better...the box set is not only a remastering of the Atlantic era but also would include Vapor Trails Remixed. Awesome! And I mean it. Fist of all, Presto and Roll the Bones needed remastering badly as you could not shuffle your Rush collection with these two. They sounded very thin and quiet. The good news is the remastering did not take away from what is good from these two albums but brought up the volume and definition. Worth the $39 just for that. The VT Remix is more than just a bonus, it is like having a new Rush album. You can read all the glowing reviews on Amazon already but for me the songs are finally given their proper mix and clarity. The album is just amazing and meaningful for the significance it holds to Rush's history. Now true justice has been done and a larger audience can rediscover this hidden gem. Oh yeah, Counterparts is a masterpiece too (for the modern Rush era).

5.0 out of 5 stars All Remastered! September 30, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Yes, all of the RUSH album in this box set have been remastered for this box set. "Presto" sounds amazing. Not louder; more definition. And, the "Vapor Trails" remix makes it sound like a whole new album. Get this set and dump your Atlantic Rush CDs, except for the live ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOW THE COLLECTION IS WHOLE. October 1, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Along with the SECTER box sets this now makes the RUSH collection whole...I've followed RUSH since their inception and this new set is just amazing...."PRESTO" doesn't even sound like the same album...the highs are high and the bass is crisp and rich. As others have taken away points for the packaging ...for $40 or less it is what it is....this is all about the music..enjoy the music of RUSH!

3.0 out of 5 stars Packaging is disappointing October 7, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Have to agree with the other reviewers about the packaging. Having all the CDs in one box with sleeve covers is nice but not including the original credits and booklets exposes a label that doesn't understand the audience for their act. Rush fans are about the whole package: music, art, credits, lyrics - it's all important. Anyone can buy the original discs used for the same cost per disc as picking up this set. "Casual" fans (if there is such a thing when it comes to Rush) probably won't shell out even the bargain price this set is offered for since they probably don't like every album in the set. Unlike the collectors who WILL buy this box to get yet another set of remasters but no artwork and booklets this time. Sorry, Atlantic, but ultimately this is a letdown. Great job with the actual CDs and music, though, so credit where credit is due.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vapor Trail Remix September 30, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Being a Rush fan for my natural born life, and after listening to the remix of Vapor Trail, i am going to say David Bottrill hit a home run on the remix, i disagree with some people who say the remix was made for a lower volume, if you have a good system it sounds amazing, more tighter and crisp compared to the original, my ears arent bleeding on this remix, well done guys, and although the other 6 Cds arent remixed, they still sound different to me for some reason, i recommend all of you Rush fans to go get this...

I bought this collection reluctantly because most of these seemed o.k. to me in the last remastered form; however, the definition and clarity of Presto in this set is striking; Counterparts has noticeably better separation, and Vapor Trails Remixed makes this collection an unbelievable bargain.

Vapor Trails as originally released suffered from a lousy mix/production which only hinted at the terrific songs buried in the loud murky wall of noise. [Unfortunately Rush has 3 albums - IMHO - which as originally released have objectionable -muddy- sound: Signals, Vapor Trails, and Clockwork Angels. The worst was, of course, VT because it sounded like jet engines were in the recording room eliminating the dynamics within each song.]

Thankfully, Vapor Trails is now available with a significantly better remix. It's the difference between VHS video and Blu-ray.

My only problem with this set is that while the remasters are all better, the artwork is not reproduced faithfully; e.g. Feedback loses it's gatefold and notes, Snakes and Arrows loses it's gatefold, none of the photographic foldouts are included, and information regarding the technical details about the remastered versions are not to be found in this box set. The booklet is strictly the lyrics. Each album is simply a reproduction of the front and back covers.

Bottom line is the packaging docks a full 5 star rating to 4 1/2.

5.0 out of 5 stars No surprises...not that that's a bad thing. October 28, 2013
By Duardo
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I figure that people buying this will for the most part know what they're getting into...I own all of the albums in this compilation already, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that...but the packaging is very nice, and the remixed version of Vapor Trails specifically is better than I expected it to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Price - it's 7 Rush CDs for 38 Dollars. Buy it. November 4, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Fantastic price. I was going to spend 10 on the remix of Vapor Trails, why not just buy all of these in one nice little package? No reason not to.

The one downside of this boxed set as opposed to the sectors boxed sets are the relative lack of images from the original album art. Sectors added images, this just didn't include any of them.

There is no Autorip for the box set. I bought it and checked and I did not have it in my Amazon MP3 catalog. Hope this helps.

Only Vapor Trails with be Remastered
You are mistaken. It sounds like you are confusing the terms remixed and remastered. Only Vapor Trails is remixed, but all the albums were remastered by Andy VanDette.

But will the rest of the discs be remastered?
I've been wondering the same thing. I'll obviously have to have the new VT disk, but a remastered Presto would sure be nice.
