Editorial Reviews

Review

I laughed whole-heartedly at Suexliegh's shenanigans as much as I wept tears at the more heart-felt moments. Really a fantastic read. I can't recommend it enough. - Duke F.

The story is well-told and thoroughly enjoyable. I want a sequel! - Signe K.

Really fast-paced and funny with tons of quirky characters to love. Lots of charm throughout and a very heartwarming story. - Taylor G.

From the Author

The Success of Suexliegh is a humorous romp through the sometimes whimsical, oftentimes outrageous, world of money and the men, women and children who wield it. With parallels to recent real-life events from the United States financial catastrophes, The Success of Suexliegh highlights one infallible man, Suexliegh, who skips over devastating recessions and corporate delinquency like a lucky stone leaving one to wonder: When money is no object, what's there to object to?

"Suexliegh" is a very celebration of life itself. This book has found a home on my shelf beside "The Hobbit" and "Gatsby." And that, my friends, is very good company indeed. I look forward to spending my life reading this treasure again and again.

A sharp and lively story, "The Success of Suexliegh" is a mix of Wodehouse and Fitzgerald. Keller's novel has a great cast of truly likable characters and laugh out loud dialogue - I especially enjoyed the interactions between our hero, Suexliegh, and his nemesis, Dingle. A character who is literally "the greatest man to have ever lived" could quickly become old, but the details of Suexliegh's life remain charming.

Short chapters make this a quick read. Highly recommended.

No pressure here, just review as normal. Never mind the personal note sent along with the complimentary copy of the book, never mind the fact that the author is most likely monitoring the progress of his sent out copies, hoping for good reviews here on Goodreads. I enjoy writing reviews, but I also work under the premise that although this is public, no one except my mother will actually read these things. And she likes everything I write, as is her duty. Sadly, not everyone takes her stance on these things.

From the moment I received the book I was both excited and nervous. I had been ecstatic that I had won a copy, and I had wanted to read it, but then the knowledge that my review was, most probably, the desired product of the gift begun to bear down upon me. I've heard that pressure isn't good for one's complexion so I've called my woman, Quinne, to take up the pen on my behalf.

The Success of Suexliegh (that's SWOO-LEE-A or SWOO-LEE-EH if one is Canadian) was a most pleasing novel that my mistress received in the post one afternoon as I was in the midst of polishing the ceiling. It was quite a maneuver to retrieve the package from that position, but to leave it lying on the front step would have been most unsatisfactory. My mistress takes great pride in her pristine library, which I dust and inspect daily. After reading of Quincy and Quincy Jr., both striking characters whose warmth and humor lit up the pages and added a much needed dose of common sense to the novel, I renewed my own vow, to serve my lady as befits a true gentlelady's gentlelady.

When my mistress arrived home she immediately fell upon the book (and plate of cucumber sandwiches I had set out for her tea) and begun to read it immediately.

I received a free copy from the Goodreads Group Shut-up-and-Read
A remarkable fresh and entertaining read with all the eccentricity of Gadsby, but none of the tragedy. The sparking prose spikes imagination into a wonderfully meshed net of fantasy and indulgence that is both tongue-in-cheek and wistful in tandem. The grand scale of extreme wealth envisaged by the author for his main character makes the moral of the story all the more poignant and charming since the reader is literally doused in opulence making the finale all the more striking. Intrigue abounds on the pages in equally measure to romance and gives the tale a piquant bite, a hook to reel in the audience, making them invest in the protagonists and be carried away on a cat-string adventure from race track to exotic destinations and back again to Suexliegh's backyard which for purpose of demonstrating the enormity of the property, has a ten-mile-long hedge.
Humour pulses through the plot as well as in the hearts of all the quirky and originally conceived protagonists. Each character is a work of graceful art in themselves and they paint a stunning vivid canvas throughout the story for the readers sheer enjoyment. The writing is stimulating, scintillating and often damn funny. The plot which at times will leave you breathless by its creative brilliance is a marvel to behold and makes you want to beg the author for more. This is not only a very special book, but it sets the scene for a truly gifted writer to indent his mark on the overpopulated author landscape with aplomb and rare style. I adored this book!
