1.0 out of 5 stars Selling the dream, not a business book November 11, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
First up I must state that reading about Natalie online and having bought her book, I get the feeling she is a really lovely person who is enjoying life and loves to travel. She seems like someone I could really get on with and whose company I would enjoy.

However, there are so many new books out with people selling a dream. How does Natalie make her money? By selling her information products and the information products of others which is mostly information freely available on the internet. I suppose the best part of the book is the list of business tools that Natalie refers to such as Asana, Hootsuite, ODesk, Elance, Google Anayltics, etc. I knew about most of the tools, but there are some that I did not know about that I will investigate. If you check out Natalie's blog at Suitcaseentrepreneur.com you will find these tools here.

It seems like a lot of the lifestyle entrepreneurs work togother, promoting each other's books and tools. But my feeling is that they are really selling the dream. They promote each other's books, sell to each other's lists and do joint ventures, give each other book reviews etc. (this is great marketing, so well done)

I have my own business and my aim is to have my business run completely without me, so that I can travel a few months a year and play sport a few hours a day and socialise more. However, I am doing this by running an actual business, providing great products that clients want, setting up better systems and hiring great people and providing an exceptional service to our clients and delighting them in every way possible. This involves a lot of hard work and trying to be better at what we do every single day. We work hard and slowly but surely I am getting more time to work on new ventures and play my sport.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay book but... October 29, 2013
By Jeff
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an okay book with some good info. I've been pretty much doing this lifestyle for several years now, in a handful of countries. Based on that I know there's some value in the author's advice. Where the books falls short is delving into the details needed for the average Joe or Jill to pull off the lifestyle without a lot of trial and error.

What I find most annoying about the book and the reason for dinging one of those stars is the author's incessant self promotion of her other books starting very early on and continuing throughout the book. I often got the impression I purchased a sales brochure instead of a stand alone book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, practical and inspirational March 21, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The Suitcase Entrepreneur is one of the most informative building an online business style books I have read. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to create their own online based business.

Natalie includes very helpful information about the specifics of setting up an international business, what tools to use to help you do your work, how to use social media to grow your business, travel tips, what to outsource and who to outsource it to. The book also includes tons of great resources listed at the back of the book.

Unlike so many other online business style books, the Suitcase Entrepreneur provides solid advice on how to create the freedom to live the life you want. It's brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Plan your adventure and..."Ready, set, go!" August 12, 2013
Format:Paperback
I have read tons of business books and have an MBA. Learning how to create your own website, sell your services or products, or establish your social media presence is not something new to me.

Natalie covers all of these subjects, but gives you much more, an angle I have never found in any other book:

1. Life is an adventure that is worth living on your own terms.

2. Have you ever thought the legal aspect of your business? What if you spend time in two or more countries? What if you have a double citizenship? What's the best way to set up your business when any one of those conditions is true?

3. If you have ever wondered how becoming location independent really is, then there is no-one more of an expert than Natalie. She is literally homeless as she travels from country to country, all the time. Of course, you don't have to become homeless too. But even if you have considered long-term travel, say 2 months or more, then managing your online business remotely, and having already created a business that can be managed this way, is crucial.

4. The last part of the book is...you guessed it - a travel book! Where to travel? How to pack? What about having a phone with you? And how to travel for cheap?

From making sure you are "cut out" to work while traveling, to how to eat properly and take care of yourself while abroad, to combining the wonders of travel with the reality of business...Natalie will be your guide in this business and life adventure. What are you waiting for? :)
