Book Description

After Katrina "Kat" Summer's mother dies a mysterious and tragic death, Kat is hurled into life at Apollo Beach. Her estranged and cryptic grandmother Rose fills Kat with legends of her Ancient Greek Ancestors from which the Summer family descends. Kat's world begins to unravel as secrets from her heritage are exposed - secrets that her mother purposefully concealed.
Leading to her birthday, the day of the Summer Solstice, Kat becomes frightened when enigmatic visions and disturbing dreams haunt her. When her visions become reality, her fear turns to terror as powerful forces threaten the lives of those around her.
Amidst the turmoil, Kat meets Alec Stone, her gorgeous neighbor, who becomes her sole solace in an evocative world of mythological enchantment and evil prophecies that lurk around every corner...

"An enchanting paranormal romance with historical undertones...written with such creativity...Ms. Allen is a true storyteller." ~ YA Book Club

"The cover sold me. The story captivated me. The ending made me want more!" ~ Today's Journal

"Debut Author, K.K. Allen, has produced an original supernatural story inspired by the perfect combination of Greek mythology, teen love, and enchantment. A well-written and inspiring tale for our young generation of readers." ~ T. Lane, Editor

"AMAZING! What an enchanting and original story. Wonderfully crafted...I felt as if I was in Apollo Beach, Fl. with the characters. Well done." - R. Bates, Reader

"...character development is brilliantly executed. No dry or weak characters. The female protagonist goes through real tragedy in a truthful manner. And we see her character grow in a way which other teens will most definitely identify with. LOVED it!" ~ B. Sanchez

From the Author

The Summer Solstice: Enchanted derived from simplicity and was spun into gold through the eyes of Katrina Summer, our female protagonist. I wanted to write a story that was as realistic as possible while incorporating supernatural elements in a unique way. Above all, I wanted to entertain my readers with a bit of suspense, a progressive romance, and an exciting new mythology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic YA urban fantasy! October 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I teach young adults and read my fair share of YA literature, so when Ms. Allen’s debut novel popped up on my Amazon Prime account as a suggested purchase I thought, why not? I’ll give it a try. Good call. This well-paced novel hooked me from the start. Ms. Allen’s nimble writing is filled with lively descriptions, and I found the main character, Kat, sympathetic, intelligent, and interesting. In many ways Kat is your typical teen, wanting to fit in, nervous about attending a new school, and attracted to the boy next door, but in so many other mysterious ways she is not.

Due to the death of her mother, Kat’s world has been turned upside down. Add some horrible nightmares and you wonder how much this kid can take. Yet in spite of everything, Kat views life with a wonderful innocence as she pushes on. I saw some of the plot line opening up before the main character did, but I attribute this to honest writing as Ms. Allen allows the story to unfold through Kat’s sixteen year old eyes, raising such questions as: Who exactly is this aloof grandmother she is forced to live with? What role does her grandmother’s “secretary” Charlotte play? Why is Kat able to hear conversations from across the room? Run five miles without breaking a sweat? Shoot a perfect game of pool the first time she plays?

This is really a coming of age story with an urban fantasy backdrop. Like most teenagers, Kat wants a job so she can earn her own money, gain a little independence, and not depend all the time on her wealthy grandmother. Of course, she is not your average teenager and in turn has a lot to learn about her magical heritage, as evident by events that occur in the climax. Ms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for book 2! June 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I devoured this novel in just two days. I couldn't stop reading. OMG. I love Kat. My heart broke for her at the beginning of the book reading the story of her mom. And the love story was just getting good. I can't wait to see how her story unfolds. My only complaint is this book is too short. Please write more soon!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Enchanting! September 21, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I can't tell you how impressed I am with this debut novel! It's so well-written, so full of rich description, that it places you right there alongside the main character, Kat, in the strange new world of magic she finds herself in.
"The Summer Solstice" has a modern-day fairytale quality to it. On one level, Kat is a typical teen. She's just trying to find her place in the world after her mother dies unexpectedly, and she's forced to live with her mysterious grandmother, Rose, whom she's never met. On the other hand, there are strange dreams, and mysterious powers that the locals whisper about behind closed doors.
There's something here for everyone: mystery, action, fantasy, and even romance. So many Young Adult books seem to concentrate solely on the romantic aspects that the over-all story falls flat. That isn't the case, here. Happily, Ms. Allen made the bold choice to not make the entire book about the budding relationship between Kat and the boy next door, Alec. The connection is there; you certainly feel it along with Kat, but this book is more about a girl discovering herself and her family for the first time. The ending was perfectly timed to leave me wanting more. I congratulate Ms. Allen on a job well done.
I'm really looking forward to reading the next book to this series, "The Equinox."

5.0 out of 5 stars Truth in advertising September 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I didn't read the book - way too old and the wrong gender. However, my grandniece did and it cost me two hours of Kindle time. When she returned the Kindle, I asked her if she liked the book. "I loved it," she replied. I asked her why. She told me that I wouldn't understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real mystery! October 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
The life that Kat knew is over. Her mother is dead and she is forced to leave her home and live with a grandmother she has never known. As she makes friends and enemies alike, she is beginning to suspect that something is strange about her new home. Just when she thought her life was over, an electrifying and perhaps, frightening destiny awaits her.

Life is full of winding roads and sometimes we have no idea what is waiting for us around the bend. Allen's novel sends the message that maybe life isn't always what we expect it will be. Perhaps, life has more in store for us then we realize and just maybe, there's more to us then we know.

Immediately, I found myself sympathizing for Kat. The author had created a vulnerable, yet strong young woman. I enjoyed watching her embrace the torch handed to her and grow into much more then the sad girl I met at the beginning of the book. All of Allen's characters are real and believable. The dialogue makes them even more alive and genuine.

The Summer Solstice Enchanted is well written, making it a smooth read. The plot was laid out logically and I didn't find myself questioning holes in the story. It begins with a hair pulling mystery, which will keep the reader turning the pages.
