Book Description

The Summer Solstice Enchanted is the first in the Summer Solstice Series – a lighthearted Young Adult Paranormal Fantasy Romance fit for any age.

Katrina "Kat" Summer has been sheltered and void of much social interaction her entire life. But her world changes drastically when her mother dies unexpectedly and she is forced move in with her grandmother and caretaker.

In the picturesque town of Apollo Beach, which dwells on Florida’s West Coast, is where Kat’s world takes on enchanting new beginnings. Her grandmother, Rose, a whimsical old lady with wild tales of the Ancient Greek Mythology and the gods and goddesses from which their family descends, encourages Kat to understand their heritage. But the more Kat learns the more she realizes how many secrets her mother kept from her growing up.

Leading up to her 16th birthday (on the Summer Solstice), Kat is occupied with enigmatic visions and disturbing dreams with prophecies much too real to ignore. And after a run-in with the boy next door, a good looking guy her age named Alec Stone, Kat is more resolved than ever to find out the truth about her families’ past and what that has to do with her future.

What Kat finds in Apollo Beach is a mythology surrounding the Summer Solstice that forever transforms her from the awkward girl she once was, to the enchanted Katrina Summer.

The Summer Solstice Enchanted is the first book in the Summer Solstice series and is just a taste of much more paranormal fantasy and romance to come. Stay tuned for more information on the second novel in the series, The Equinox, coming soon.

From the Author

The response I've gotten so far for my debut novel, The Summer Solstice: Enchantment, has been a dream come true. Six years ago when I began developing the story, I had no thoughts to ever actually publish it! I just wanted to write a great story. When I was close to finished writing the book six months later, it dawned on me that I didn't have to keep my writing to myself anymore. What happened? Life got in the way - and fear of rejection - and I let my novel be forgotten. I have to think optimistically here, because maybe that was the best thing that could have happened to me. I spent the next few years writing, a lot, and getting better at it. When I came back to my novel a year ago, I was able to refocus and tell the same story in a more descriptive and organized way. With inspiration drawn from my favorite writers, Nicholas Sparks, Kristin Hannah, Stephanie Meyers, Jane Green, Sophie Kinsella...and YA novels like Fault in Our Stars, Twilight, Divergent, Hunger Games...these lists go on for days...I was finally able to push save on a completed book that I was proud to share with the world.

For my readers - THANK YOU for your support!

For my potential readers - THANK YOU for your consideration. There are a lot of great books out there and I'm honored that you may choose mine.

Sincerely,

K.K. Allen

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Summer Read! July 18, 2014
By L
Format:Kindle Edition
K.K. Allen's The Summer Solstice: Enchanted was the perfect 'lazy summer days' read for me this week.
Newly orphaned Kat moves to Florida to live with her grandmother, the affluent and powerful town leader, Rose. The setting is idealic but Kat is curious to know why she was kept away from this branch of her family. Answers are not rapidly forthcoming but as her sixteenth birthday approaches  strange things happen which Kat dismisses as a result of grief.
Having been brought up in a protective setting, Kat copes remarkably well with her new life - There's the gorgeous Alec next door, and unfortunately the somewhat hostile girls from the small town. Sharing solstice with her new family is a huge turning point, and from there we get some answers. The story develops at a good pace, allowing the reader to speculate on what might happen next. K.K. Allen's characters are very nicely drawn, and I liked the way the relationships develop, especially between Kat and Charlotte who fills some of the void left by Kat's mother's untimely demise. With enough drama, action and romance to keep me entertained throughout, I would recommend this book to all who appreciate a touch of magic and suspense to their reading. I look forward to continuing this adventure to see what becomes of Kat and will be downloading book 2, The Equinox, in preparation for my next set of lazy summer days.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for number 2! July 26, 2014
By TracyD
Format:Kindle Edition
I will never look at Apollo Beach the same! Katrina begins life with her distant grandmother after losing her mother unexpectedly. While Rose (her grandmother) appears distant and cold at first, it becomes clear that she loves her and wants nothing more than to protect her as she comes into her solstice powers. While Katrina has a hard time believing, things begin happening around her 16th birthday which forces her to acknowledge and learn. Even if all she'd LIKE to do is get to know the hot neighbor Alec better. Trying to fit in and make friends, Kat attends Alec's 4th of July birthday party and things quickly get out of hand...and she realizes that there are dark powers out there as well. Reality sets in when she realizes that her powers need to be honed and used for good...because something dark lurks around the corner. These characters were so developed and the story felt so "real" that I'm sure the next time I see a small sand wind tunnel, or sudden dark clouds, I'll be looking around wondering if someone nearby did that or was it just nature?
Looking forward to the next installment of "Summer Solstice"!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting read! August 9, 2014

I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed reading "The Summer Solstice: Enchanted". (YA is not my usual genre, I downloaded it for free through Amazon Prime.) The story captivated me from the start and I connected with Kat right away. A very well written mix of love, mystery and suspense that has me looking forward to K.K. Allen’s next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars It enchanted me! July 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I was guided to this book. It is not my usual kind of reading....but it is really really excellent. The writing is lyrical, fast paced and best of all I cared for the characters especially Kat who is both in the modern world and that of the ancient Greeks. Nothing about the fantasy in the story grates at all and I was there with Kat and enjoying her encounters which also lead to romance....

It's very good to read out of your comfort zone and K.K. Allen enchanted me as did Katrina.

Unreservedly recommended to teenagers....and adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mystical Surprise August 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
K.K. Allen is a new talent for young adult fiction without a doubt. She paints vivid pictures with her simplistic way of using words to describe each scene, and it puts her readers in the seats of her characters. In Summer Solstice "Kat" finds herself all alone after her mother dies, and she ends up at Apollo Beach living in the estate of her grandmother Rose and housekeeper Catherine. Kat has dreams and visions of the past and the future the leads her to many questions about the present and the past of what happened to her mother and grandfather. At times her visions seem so real it scares her, especially when she meets Alec. The two began to like each other, but during a summer party when jealousy sets in from one of Alec's former friends, Kat begins to understand the mysteries behind her dreams, and the meaning of the Summer Solstice. How does she handle this other girls' jealous? Is Kat just your average teenager or someone more powerful? This story starts off with Kay talking about her thoughts and feelings with Catherine, and the dreams after her mom passed away, but suddenly like the tilt of the planets, readers will be surprised when things take a sudden turn like an eclipse. If you've seen the movie, A Midnight Summer's Dream, than this book has the casting of its shadow, and K.K. Allen nails it!

From K.K. Allen:

Books I Like - My taste for reading is eclectic. What I download from Kindle or pull off the bookshelf has everything to do with the mood that I'm in. I can say, that a lot of my reading lately comes from the vast array of exciting Young Adult novels out there. YA has the tendency to pull me in and hold my attention - which, after a long day of work - is hard to do. I'm a sucker for novels like Twilight, Divergent, Hunger Games, etc. But my favorite author of all time is most definitely Nicholas Sparks. I enjoy Sophie Kinsella, Jane Green, and an infinite number of others.

What's Next - After launching The Summer Solstice: Enchanted I have been busy prepping the Print version that will be for sale within the next month. After that, I'll be settling in to tackle the second Summer Solstice Novel, the Equinox. I'm eager to begin writing the next novel. Kat is really flourishing as a young woman and we get to watch her grow into her own skin throughout her journey. We introduce a few more characters in the next book which I'm very excited about. So stay tuned - there is much more enchantment to come!
