Book Description

This book is written with a tender humor and a genuine compassion for the importance of the feelings and emotions of a child.
The Kindle Book Review

This little book is like iced tea on a hot day. It changes things inside of you.
Joyce Faulkner, Author of "In the Shadow of Suribachi," "Losing Patience," "For Shrieking Out Loud," and "USERNAME."

There is so much love echoing through these stories -- love of family and love of nature -- they are a joy to read.
Barbara Alfaro author of "Mirror Talk"

This is a book you will want to read again and again, particularly aloud to those who are important in your life.
Inge Meldgaard author of "A death in the Making" and "The Cicada"

R. Garcia, the writer who is also known by his pen name "Phantomimic," brings you "The Sun Zebra", which is best described as a children's book for grownups. Its aim is to encourage us to discover (or rediscover) the amazing things that children and their magical carefree world can teach us, even as we try to teach them about the harsh realities of our own. The book is a collection of five stories that follow the "adventures in living" of an unusual little girl named Nell, her mother Rhonda, and Nell's father who is the narrator of the stories.

I loved these stories because they are a reminder of what's important in life: the bonds we have with our family and friends and the incredible magic of children.
Ingrid Ricks author of "Hippie Boy"

The stories are pleasant, funny, and delightful to read, but you quickly discover that they go much deeper than you anticipated when you first began reading them.
Robert David McNeil author of "Iona Portal"

Buy this book and you too will feel the sun shine on you in a new and different way. I promise.
Laura Novak author of "Finding Clarity"

5.0 out of 5 stars The Eyes of a Child December 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
A delightful collection of short stories recounted by a father chronicling the explorations of his daughter Nell. Nell is a very thoughtful, contemplative and questioning little girl who sees things thru the eyes of childhood innocence. These stories will charm and mesmerize as you are engaged in each story from the father's point of view as well as Nell's point of view.

The stories contained in this book are:
The Sun Zebra
Bob The Intrepid Insectnaut
Raven - Lenore
The Meaningless Christmas Tree
Birdman and The Fairy Tale

Each of these delightful tales manages to convey to a child the meaning of life, heartbreak, death, love and the true meaning of the things we create and hold dear. I found myself laughing and feeling the frustration and satisfaction of a parent trying to explain life in a way that a child can understand.

You will be gratified by the special connection this father has with his daughter and the love they share.
This is a book for adults and a book for parents to read with their children. This book is written with a tender humor and a genuine compassion for the importance of the feelings and emotions of a child.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from Phantomimic.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sun Zebra-good fun for all January 22, 2012
By Storm
Format:Kindle Edition
When I sat down to read The Sun Zebra, I could not put it down. It was one quick trip to the kitchen for a drink and back again. It was very enjoyable to have the perspective that was given, kind of felt like watching from over your shoulder. Nell is a delight. It seemed that every page had her seeing things from a child's viewpoint, that I honestly admit I've missed as a grown up. Love her way of seeing past the surface shellac we adults grow accustomed to and seeing the world through the beauty and ingenuity of a child's eyes.

Each story was brilliant and lovingly told, from Elsie to Bob to the heart touching christmas tree and the big bad wolf. As soon as I finished the last story I told my bf of 17 years that this was a must read book. I have it on Kindle but he told me he wanted to get his own copy! lol Didn't take much---I read a couple of snippets to him and he was hooked and wanted to read it all.

The Sun Zebra is a real delight, a treat for young and old alike and a nudge to see things as a child does. An excellent book!

This is a very delightful book filled with charming stories that teach us to love life. I easily read this in one sitting. I laughed, I cried and was only disappointed when it ended. My first read by this author but definitely not my last.

More About the Author

R. Garcia is the peculiar eclectic writer. He was born on a Caribbean island and lived in several Latin American countries before residing permanently in the United States. Along the way he obtained a Ph.D. in a scientific discipline and produced several highly technical publications. However, one fine day he decided to fulfill his dream of writing something besides technical articles. This he began to do by publishing his work under the pen name "Phantomimic" on the document sharing site Scribd.com, where his stories have accumulated more than one hundred thousand reads and hundreds of comments. Based in part on this enthusiastic response to his work, he decided to take it to the next level. His first book on the Amazon Kindle is the collection of short stories entitled: "The Sun Zebra".
