From the Publisher

The bestselling authors who made melatonin a household word now tell the rest of the story of what is quite possibly our century's greatest medical breakthrough: superhormones. William Regelson, M.D., one of the nation's leading anti-aging doctors, explains how the latest discoveries in the field add up to an exciting revolution in science and medicine that now gives undeniable support to his long-held claim that aging as we know it is neither a necessary nor an inevitable part of life. Rather, aging is a preventable disease for which we now have a cure at hand-- superhormones. Although melatonin remains the linchpin of the anti-aging movement that is sweeping the country today, there is a whole class of superhormones that can both improve the quality of our lives and extend them by helping us to maintain the health, energy, vigor, and sexual stamina of youth. The authors explain clearly, simply, and convincingly how nature's superhormones work and why it is now possible to stay young, at any age, simply by boosting your superhormones back to their youthful levels. The research is coming out of our nation's best institutions, including Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Wisconsin, as well as from the labs of leading scientists around the globe. Yet in addition to describing the exciting laboratory results, The Superhormone Promise also enables readers to hear first-hand from the doctors and patients who have already experienced the amazing age-reversing benefits of superhormones. In short, the Superhormone Revolution has already begun, and Dr. Regelson now explains how to make it work for you. The Superhormone Promise provides complete and comprehensive information about each of the superhormones, including up to the minute research on melatonin, DHEA, testosterone, estrogen (including new fonns of "designer" estrogens that will soon be available with none of the drawbacks of the current fortns of estrogen), progesterone, pregnenolone, thyroid horinone, and growth hormone. Many of the superhormones are available over the counter and the rest are already being prescribed by tens of thousands of doctors across the United States. Information on how to locate doctors in your area who are already using superhormones in their practice is included in the resource section of the book. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The Superhormone Promise certainly is one of the most informative works on the natural hormones DHEA, Pregnenolone, Testosterone, Estrogen and Progesterone, Thyroid Hormone, Growth Hormone and Melatonin. It clearly explains the power of superhormones to boost the immune system, enhance libido, strengthen bone and muscle, relieve depression & stress, improve memory, reduce body fat, reverse aging, and much more.

Pregnenolone is the best safe substance for increasing mind power and improving mood, DHEA excels at increasing libido and providing energy, whilst Melatonin is a wise choice for a good night's sleep and for strengthening immunity. Combining these with the daily use of a multivitamin & mineral supplement plus free-form amino acids may lead to even more impressive results.

DHEA & Pregnenolone are discussed in chapters one & 2, followed by testosterone in the next two chapters. Estrogen & Progesterone are dealt with in part three. Chapters 7 & 8 examine Thyroid Hormone & Human Growth Hormone respectively; chapter 9 is devoted to Melatonin and the last deals with dosages and how to take the superhormones.

Appendix 1 provides information on resources & diagnostic tests; Appendix 2 is a scientific article by Regelson with Dr Mohammed Y Kalimi titled: "DHEA - A Pleiotropic Steroid. How can one Steroid do so much?" from the journal Advances in Anti-Aging Medicine, vol. 1 of 1996.

For anyone wanting to take their health into their own hands, this is a great start. Both male and female can learn about hormones, the rolls they play and why they need to be replaced as we age in order to stay healthy. A must read.

This book dates from 1996 and the MD author is gungho for all kinds of bioidentical hormones, especially DHEA. But time has passed and DHEA has a lot of detractors now as it can build up in the system with negative side effects. However, you will learn all you ever wanted to know about the various male and female hormones and that was the reason I bought the book used at Amazon. I admit I have been using the cream form of the precursor hormone pregnenolone, but only in 5 mg doses and with lots of vacation times as suggested by nutritional commentator Ray Sahelian. For me it's mood elevating and improves my muscle strength, good enough for an older woman. The other stuff I'd leave alone unless I had confirming medical tests that I needed them. For an overall good explanation and evaluation of hormones, it's a good read. I just have trouble with the oversell of hormone therapy. Like trying to put a sports car engine in a Model T Ford. The outcome might not be so good. They are steroids after all.
