The Swayne Lumber Company: Narrow Gauge Logging in the Merrimac Forest is an outstanding book about the logging industry in California. I can across this book while doing research at the Californai State Railraod Muesum Library on the Cental Pacific Railroad. The historian pointed this book out to me due to the first chapter concering the Truckee Lumber Company in Truckee. This very importan history on the Truckee Lumber Company is lost due to the title of the book.

The first chapter of this book is a must read for all historical students of the logging industry in the Truckee River Basin. More information about the Truckee Lumber Company can be found at the Truckee Donner Historical Society Library.

The authors of this sould be commended for their work.
