About the Author

Judith A. Belmont, MS, is a national speaker, corporate wellness trainer, member of the National Speakers Association, and a member of the Association for Journalists and Authors. With a B.S. in Psychology from The University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Hahnemann Medical College, her experience as a psychotherapist and educator spans over 30 years. The Swiss Cheese Theory of LifeWhen a family members saw me holding this book, she said, "You really have too much time on your hands reading about cheese". If you thought even for a second this is about cheese - you are so wrong. "Swiss is not like any other cheese - and neither are you!"

With all the stress around many of us do feel stuck in the whole. It is not fun to be in the hole - telling from a personal experience. The only way I see of tackling the whole is with the sense of humor. This book offers valuable advices on how to handle every day problems and does is with a great sense of style and entertainment.

As dealing with anything else, you take it one slice (problem) at a time. This book has a great collection of real life situations that we face every day and helps us take a different look at it. I came across multiple scenarios in the book that seem very common and happened to me multiple times - handling a difficult boss, holding on to the past, not moving forward because of fear of failure. Did you know that the greatest people like Oprah Winfrey, Walt Disney , Abraham Lincoln, Steven Spelberg failed at the very things we know them for? As you go through the book, you can take several simple tests to help you understand where you stand with certain areas of your life. It also touches a topic of health and fitness and how you can start burning calories easy.

Let me leave you with one thing I really liked by The Swiss Wiz, book's mentor: "Waiting for tomorrow to be happy will get you nowhere"

This book is incredibly lighthearted and substantial. It might sound cheesy (pardon the pun), but it really isn't! I will no longer take a piece of Swiss cheese for granted.

The authors point out that larger holes mean sweeter, more flavorful cheese. A lot of adages, more or less, have the same message. Really, what is life without experience? How can we appreciate life when it's good when we don't have those bumps in the road? It's like when you come down with a cold or maybe you have allergies and one day, you wake up with a clear head and it's like, "Ahh..." You never knew when you'd get over it, but you did.

The underlying message I gleaned from this book? Be positive. Stephen Covey, whom I was pleased to see mentioned in this book, talked about being proactive rather than reactive. Same concept. When you're plagued with negative thoughts, it's up to you to choose positive ones. Someone make you angry? Well, don't let them get to you. You can only control one part about the situation - YOURSELF.

There are also tips on communication (active listening, using "I" statements), self-care (eating well and exercise), and other ways to avoid becoming the "stinky cheese." I don't want to give away too much because this book is such a gem. It's a keeper! And I'm not just saying that because the authors happen to be in a field that I'm headed for myself.

The Swiss Cheese Theory of Life! by Judith A. Belmont, MS and Lora Shor, MSW is a great read. I love the approach these amazing women take in their analysis of how to get through life's holes without getting stuck in them. Throughout the book, they cut up life into ten delicious slices that help you make important changes in your way of thinking and dealing with every day stressors and more. The comparison to swiss cheese is a wonderful aid to keep their advice and insight in your mind. There are some activities within the book that help you take a good look and move on to better days. Being resilient is a characteristic we all have and this book is a super set of directions on how to reach inside yourself and bring it out.

This book would be a great graduation gift for a high school or college graduate! A newly married couple could use this as a guide to navigating through the challenges of settling into life together. That just divorced friend or just widowed friend would find much comfort and motivation in these pages. Lose your job or even your house? Got New Year's resolutions to make a better life this year? This book certainly has ideas that anyone can take to heart. Let the Swiss Wiz and the Swiss Cheese Fairy of Life guide you past the Stinky Cheese. I loved this book!

I found The Swiss Cheese Theory of Life to be the perfect book to read, especially with our circumstance and the current state of our economy. I am reminded of how thankful I am to have a roof over our heads, to have a car, and to have my family. I am thankful for everything that we have. We may not have everything we want, but we do have what we need.

I never thought I would ever read a self-help book but The Swiss Cheese Theory of Life is very resourceful, helpful, positive, confidence boosting, and filled with great tips to get started! I loved the little exercises and examples that were provided. The book gives real life examples and stories and make it very easy to read and follow along.

This book will help you change the way you think about your life. It will help you change your perspective on your situation. I think this book would make a great gift for anyone and everyone!
