Symbolon: Noun [sim-boh-luhn] 1)  Soul mates.

The name "Symbolon" came from a discussion in Plato's Symposium about a play by Aristophanes and refers to soul mates.

The actual interpretation has to do with two-headed, eight-limbed creatures that were cut in half and cursed to roam the world alone, never feeling complete. Did I mention that Aristophanes was a comic playwright?

The Symbolon refers to Alex and Valeria as soul mates and is really the love story of the trilogy. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely enamored! November 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ms. Colvin does it again! From start to finish, I was moved by the emotionally charged story that unfolds. As book 2 of a trilogy, the author did an artistic job of taking you deeper into the world of the immortals where I found myself falling more in love with Alex and Valeria as well as cheering on new character who unseemingly vies for the reader's affection. Throughout the book, Ms. Colvin planted well-placed seeds of intrigue keeping me curious to find answers/explanations in book 3 without detracting from the beautiful story of book 2. This book doesn't stand alone like book 1 does, but by this point, the release of book 3 is eagerly anticipated by oracle fans who want to see love conquer and the rearing head of jealousy, greed, and evil beheaded with justice.

If you read book one of Delia's The Sibylline Trilogy, The Sibylline Oracle, and loved it, you will not be disappointed with The Symbolon. It's hard, because I hate when reviewers spoil it for readers and give the main plot away, but there are just some things that must be mentioned. And The Symbolon is all about finally *trying* to get these two soul mates (Alex & Valeria), the symbolons, together -- this time, forever. And they are so close. The only thing that stands in their way is approval from a council of immortals for an immortal marriage, and a pesky former marriage of Alex's, which proves to be more of a nuisance than he could ever have imagined. The roller coaster adventure that takes off after an explosive and heart-wrenching council meeting sets the tone for the book - which is unfulfilled love, frustration, hope, and life-endangering plotting. These two lovers still yearn for their other half and will do ANYTHING to have a chance to come together, forever, once and for all. In this second novel, we become better acquainted with new characters and more answers are revealed about Alex's history, immortals, oracles, and as always, with the flair of Greek Mythology plus modern day romance. I love how well Delia can build out a scene and really make you feel like you are right there, holding your breath, waiting for the outcome. These are characters you will get emotionally attached to and will yearn to read their conclusion in her upcoming debut of The Last oracle. An excellent trilogy that is so unique and for the die hard romantic at heart.

*Disclaimer: I am Delia's copy editor, however, I am first and foremost a reader. I am not paid by Delia to review her books, my job does not depend on it, and nor has she ever asked me to review one of her books. I am reviewing this book as a reader ONLY and these opinions are my own. Thank you kindly for understanding!*

I couldn't wait to start book 2 of the trilogy. You do think to yourself just how will the author continue the story from the first book......oh boy she does a great job!!

The book started with a bit of a shock, especially knowing about Alex's undying love for Cassandra, it did surprise me but then you learn it was in the past.

So the moment has finally come for the soul mates Alex and Cassandra to marry but before they do they have to meet in front of the council of immortals for permission. This means they have to prove that Cassandra is now immortal which thankfully they do but things do not go plan, evil selfish forces are against their marriage.

What will happen? Who can they trust? Not everything is as it seems......

I'm not going to give any more away, you will have to enjoy reading the twists and turns throughout the story yourself just like I did and it will keep you hooked. When you think that they have finally reached the light at the end of the desperate tunnel the author weaves her magic again and your left holding your breath for the next installment!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me engaged! January 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ms. Delia has displayed great talent in writing the first two of her trilogy! She's kept me engaged and wanting to read more! So much so that I got through it even as a busy mama of a 1 year old and an almost 4 year old! Though not my typical genre to read, I'm happy to have ventured out of my norm into a story line that's captivating and got to know characters to cheer for! I can't wait for the third one to be available! Thanks for writing Ms. Delia!

A Review of The Symbolon
Reviewed by Wennie Conedy
3 Stars

The Symbolon is the second book in The Sibylline Trilogy, and not having the pleasure of reading the first book, I had a difficult time getting into the story of Alex and Valeria.

The first five chapters had a number of references to what I am assuming are incidents or situations established in the first book which, unfortunately, left me with a lot of unanswered questions. It was at this point that I almost gave up.

The story finally took off towards the end of Chapter 5. Expecting a smooth event, requesting for two immortals to marry, ended in an edict that delayed the marriage – for hundreds of years, and an order for the two lovers to stay apart. Alex made a drastic mistake. Alex let his emotions rule his actions. His one soft spot is his love for Valeria. He would do anything to protect her and be by her side. His one soft led him to make decisions that affected their forever-after, and he now has to live with it, or find the solution to mend it. Little does he know that there are other factors in play.

I loved the setting of the story, and references to Greek lore, which I find to be mystical and mysterious.

The continuity of the story left much to be desired. There were some characters, like Meege, who seemed to pop up and disappear from the story without any explanation. Meege's main contribution to the story is to facilitate Alex's meeting her ex-husband Paolo. Her character was a convenient tool to budge the story forward.

I also felt that the resolution of the character's situation was incomplete. The author failed to address how the solution would affect the characters in the long term. What is their standing with the council?
