The story tarts out strong, and continues with good character development, interesting plot twists, and sub plots that pull the pieces together for you. It has believable detail and sensible science threads that really make it a fun read. Mr Davies also does a great job keeping the action flowing, and, as most good writers do, the Szuiltan Alliance author sneaks in a few really good "didn't see that coming" moments throughout. The book seems well balanced and had no serious editing issues. This was a fun read, and I would recommend it to sci-fi fans who like occasional surprises.
