Review

"Another fast paced page turner that will keep you glued to the couch...by an author who continues to standout in the increasingly crowded thriller field."—Examiner.com on The Forgotten

"Baldacci is a master when it comes to writing about small-town conspiracies and a lone hero who fights against all odds to clean up corruption. The narrative moves slowly, so the reader has a chance to solve the case along with Puller. It might seem straightforward, but the final reveal will surprise even hardcore thriller junkies."—The Washington Post on The Forgotten

"The Innocent is Baldacci at his absolute best...Baldacci provides the reader a non-stop pulse pounding ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat into the wee hours of the morning...Five Stars."—Examiner.com

"This book is a definite one-day, 'edge-of-your-chair' read, with an ending that is a complete surprise. One of the best Baldacci's since Absolute Power, this is one that will have all suspense readers enthralled."—Suspense Magazine on The Innocent

"Readers expect excitement and intrigue in David Baldacci's books, and Zero Day is no exception...As Baldacci's new hero narrowly escapes countless close calls, the pairing of the author's imagination and knowledge create a wild ride for the reader. Puller is gutsy, brash and likable. Best of all, he survives to reappear in the next book of this new series."—The Free-Lance Star on Zero Day

"Zero Day is a nifty, paranoid thriller disguised as a murder mystery, and Baldacci advances it at a speedy clip with a nice mix of intrigue, tantalizing clues and the occasional explosion...Baldacci's books are fast-paced battles between good and evil."—Richmond Times Dispatch on Zero Day

More About the Author

David Baldacci made a big splash on the literary scene with the publication of his first novel, ABSOLUTE POWER. A major motion picture adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. In total, David has published 27 novels, all of which have been national and international bestsellers; several have been adapted for film and television. His novels have been translated into more than 45 languages and sold in more than 80 countries; over 110 million copies are in print worldwide. David has also published four novels for children.

David received his Bachelor's degree in political science from Virginia Commonwealth University and his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, after which he practiced law in Washington, D.C.

While David is involved with several philanthropic organizations, his greatest efforts are dedicated to his family's Wish You Well Foundation®. Established by David and his wife, Michelle, the Wish You Well Foundation supports family and adult literacy in the United States by fostering and promoting the development and expansion of literacy and educational programs. In 2008 the Foundation partnered with Feeding America to launch Feeding Body & Mind, a program to address the connection between literacy, poverty and hunger. Through Feeding Body & Mind, more than 1 million new and used books have been collected and distributed via area food banks.

David and his family live in Virginia.

Great story, well written with excellent characters.
Joy Chilgren
It just seemed that there were too many stories in this one book and each was wrapped up way too quickly.
Oubraves3b
This is a page turner that was very entertaining to read and hard to put down.

Robie and Reel are called back to a meeting at Langley with the new CIA DD, Amanda Marks. She informs them that there they both must go to the Burner Box for "recalibration". This is to ensure their willingness to follow orders. This training is both physical as well as psychological in nature. Reel's explanation on following orders is excellent: "I have to execute the assignment in the best way I see fit". A part of Reel's past life comes to surface which could create immense problems to those closest to her.

The action is fast paced and takes place on many fronts. It starts with an order to kill in France and progresses to a North Korean Gulag for an attempted rescue of two individuals. And, the end finds Robie and Reel at Nantucket with the First Lady and her two children.

A North Korean agent named Chung - Cha (Comrade Yie) also has an immense role in this book. She was raised in Yodok or Camp 15, one of the Gulags. A most interesting glimpse into the life of North Koreans for me.

I found it to be an intense novel to read with well defined characters. Lots of twists and turns and a captivating read. And, there isn't much quiet time to wait for the next action scene. So, take a deep breath and buckle your seat belts up for this one.

Most highly recommended.

One of Baldacci's best. The spoiler alert is to warn readers against reading some of the amateur reviews posted here, as they tend to give away the plot. The best way to enjoy this book is to be surprised. Don't let these well-intentioned dummies spoil it for you! The rule should be: tell us what it's about, but don't tell us what happens.

I have read most of David Baldacci's books and have enjoyed all of them, but this may be the best yet. Will Robie and Jessica Reel are great characters and the author does a great job of showing a soft human side to two tough characters. It takes two good stories and brings both to a great finish with all the action you could want.
Buy it and read it, you won't be sorry.

I can't remember the last time I gave 2 stars to any book! I like to think I research my reading choices for quality and a story that will stay with me. I have always loved reading David Baldacci so I never gave ordering "The Target" a second thought. Yay..a new DB...I always look forward to each new publication. I agree with one of the other reviewers....I had to make myself stick with this book until I finally decided that the monotony of the first part of the story segued some pretty unbelievable actions as the story progressed. I read to enjoy, to place myself into the story, to live the characters. DB has always given my mind's eye a graphic description of the places and the people involved. I didn't find that in this latest book not to mention the plot is so far fetched. So disappointing for this talented author. I'll wait for the next one. He hasn't lost me yet!

Very disappointing. Far fetched and slow. Too much introspection on the part of the protagonists, kind of depressing, no fun here. Hopefully DB hasn't lost it and his next book will be up to his high standards.

For years we all knew what we were getting from David Baldacci - solid, sometimes spectacular fiction with interesting multi-dimentional characters. Sure, you had to look past the sense that he was emulating other popular writers, initially Grisham and lately Vince Flynn and Lee Child, but you could count on a pretty good read. Now we are watching Baldacci begin to emulate the James Patterson formula - I'm famous and I'm going to cash in on it by cranking out books of dubious quality as quickly as poosible. The Target reads like three separate short stories slapped together with preposterous action, stomach-churning abuse of women, and cartoon-like character development. This book makes Flynn's Mitch Rapp novels look like great literature in comparison. All Baldacci needs now is to add beach novels and a stable of ghost writers and he will have attained the Full Patterson.

I will not be buying any more books featuring Will Robie/Jessica Reel. The author seems to just re-write the same storyline over and over again. The characters seem to be almost superhuman in carrying out the duties assigned to them. They come through every obstacle put in their path to save the day, yet again! Not entertaining any more.

Absolutely dumbfounded at all the positive reviews for this book!! Really terribly written and poorly plotted effort by Baldacci. And I've read pretty much everything he's written. Offers several different disconnected storylines and no rhyme or reason that ties them together. Very disappointed.
