The Tarnished Gold Trailer

Some albums were made to be played on a Saturday night. The Tarnished Gold was meant to be played on a Sunday afternoon. Listening to Beachwood Sparks’ first album in 11 years is like being under cobalt blue skies and smelling the night-blooming jasmine on a perfect spring day in Los Angeles. “That’s definitely the idea,” founding member Brent Rademaker ... Editorial Reviews

The world has caught up to Beachwood Sparks since they came out of nowhere in 2000 with their self-titled debut album, bringing new life to what the rootsy, laidback American rock that has since been wholeheartedly embraced by the indie music scene. The Tarnished Gold is the work of the classic Beachwood Sparks lineup that made two great albums and one EP before calling it quits in 2003. Along with a stable of talented guests Ariel Pink, producer Thom Monahan, among others Beachwood Sparks have rekindled their chemistry and created an invigorating and truly memorable album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sparks Fly Again July 7, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
I first got turned on to Beachwood Sparks with When We Were Trees and have been a fan of their limited catalog ever since. Upon hearing that they were releasing a new album after an 11 year hiatus I was jazzed but thought they surely wouldn't be able to reclaim their old form. Boy was I wrong. If anything they've gotten better over time. There's something understated, yet powerful about this album that really hits home.

Their are a number of standout tracks: Sparks Fly Again, Tarnished Gold, Talk About Lonesome, Earl Jean, are The Orange Grass Special are all fantastic tracks. But most of the other, slower tracks really grow with you after a few listens as well. This album is a textured, varied grab-bag of mellow rock with a twang that delivers from start to finish. Definitely deserves more than the 2 stars the one guy gave it. And currently at $5.99 it's a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Notorious Beachwood Sparks Brothyrs July 5, 2012
Format:Audio CD
The new Beachwood Sparks album is a world unto itself. A warm field of grass. Confidently laid back but never fluffy or vapid. It fits as squarely in a Deadhead's Berkeley dormroom circa 1971 as it does in a 21st century hipster's walk-up in Brooklyn. They've been unassumingly making timeless folk/country/rock for, what, 20 years now? Explore. Luxuriate. This music is weed.

My favorite album from 2012. An album to be listened to from start to finish. Do people still do that anymore?

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice surprise that they have a new album January 3, 2013

I did not expect that Beachwood Sparks would release another album. I thought their first album was great, a gem that many people missed. Their second album did not impress me as much. I found this album to be solid, and better than the last. There is the same sound here that I was hoping for, along with a few great tracks. I would recommend for anyone already a fan, for new listeners start with their first album.
