Editorial Reviews

Review

''Hebert's memoir is a colorful eyewitness account of a transformational time in American history and an up-close look at a seminal figure in the history of yoga in the West.'' - Yoga Journal

''Pertinent and compelling. It is a tale of personal strength in the face of doubt, conflict and fear to which many yogis can relate.'' --LA Yoga

''Michele Hebert's story fascinates me. She found the courage to do something very different from anything she could have imagined, yet she conveys a powerful sense that the path she is traveling was ''meant'' and could not be denied.'' - Linda Wertheimer, National Public Radio (NPR)

''Hebert has written a 21st century spiritual adventure that is in large part ''Autobiography of a Yogini'' with an ounce of Eat, Pray, Love. Hebert's story of devotion to her teacher, told with such clarity and kindness, will touch your heart. You may even question your assumption about the guru-disciple relationship.'' - YOGA THERAPY FOR TODAY, review by Amy Weintraub, author of Yoga for Depression

''The Tenth Door is spiritually galvanizing, totally engaging and brimming with insight. This is one of the best books on living in the light of spirit that I've read in years.'' - Linda Johnsen, author of Daughters of the Goddess: The Women Saints of India

''Hebert carries us on a real-life spiritual adventure. While you're being entertained, you're also learning something important about yourself and what it takes to live as an authentically spiritual being. This one you can't put down.'' --Common Ground Magazine

''Michele Hebert's book is one of the most absorbing and enlightening accounts of a spiritual journey I have ever read. It opens doors of the mind and soul.'' - Dan Wakefield, author of Returning: A Spiritual Journey

''A genuine page turner filled with wisdom and insights for yoga fans as well as readers treading the mind-body-spirit path.'' --ForeWord Review

''Here we see for ourselves what serious commitment to regular practice can produce. Hebert makes rigorous spiritual practice not only challenging but incredibly exciting.'' --About.com

''Hebert has expertly preserved the powerful lessons he (her guru, Walt Baptiste) imparted to her within this book, at times you feel like his messages are meant for you, too. Wherever you are in your journey, The Tenth Door sets a beautiful example of how to follow your heart in order to craft your best life.'' --New Jersey Namaste News, Winter 2012

''It is not everyday that you have the opportunity to join a renowned yoga teacher on their step-by-step experience and hear their inner thoughts and feelings. The Tenth Door is a gift to the world of yoga and is for anyone interested in evolving.'' - Peter Davis, CEO, IDEA Health and Fitness Association

''Michele is one of the teachers who widened the western Yoga to be understood as it is today...The Tenth Door is an intimate story of spiritual transcendence and a totally enjoyable read.'' ---- Kim Schleicher, Feathered Pipe Foundation

At first glance the recently released ''The Tenth Door'', written by California-based yoga teacher Michele Hebert, reminded me of a book I read over a decade ago that jump-started my spiritual journey: ''The Celestine Prophecy'' by James Redfield. The most moving and intriguing aspect of the book is how it has been crafted as a loving tribute to the author s guru and his seemingly boundless love, strength and knowledge of the spiritual path. Many yogis do not get the opportunity to physically meet their guru in person although it is said that the guru is always guiding you from within. It was fascinating to watch the guru/student relationship unfold, and as Hebert has expertly preserved the powerful lessons he imparted to her within this book, at times you feel like his messages are meant for you, too.

It was not uncommon while reading this book to feel whisked away to the tropical paradise they'd carved in the Salvadoran jungle: meditation in the stone pyramid, doing yoga by starlight, or watching the sunset while swinging in a hammock. Wherever you are in your journey, ''The Tenth Door'' sets a beautiful example of how to follow your heart in order to craft your best life. -- --New Jersey Namaste News, Winter 2012

I really enjoyed this book. As an avid yogi and meditator, on my own spiritual quest, Michele's spiritual journey resonated with me on so many levels. I am also a Spanish speaker and a lover of Latin American culture, so this aspect of the book particularly interested me. I felt like I was right there with Michele as she described the imagery all around her in the jungles of El Salvador. She definitely takes the reader right into the heart of her own profound journey and all of her life-altering adventures. I was moved to tears throughout much of the book, as I felt that I could feel exactly what she was experiencing.

If you are a seeker and are on your own conscious soul journey, I highly recommend that you read this book!

If you want to glimpse into the inner world of an international mind-body-spirit expert, now is your chance! The Tenth Door is so much more than a memoir, it is a blueprint for healing and transformation. This book will help you reprogram how you think about yourself and your health. It is your personal invitation to the sanctuary of yoga, spiritual connection, and bliss. I loved it! Rebecca Williams, PhD, co-author of The Mindfulness Workbook for Addiction

Michele has so beautifully and movingly told the tale of a soul growing and awakening under the quiet and guiding eye of the Master during a time when most of us Yuppies were experimenting with our new-found freedoms from conventions, going down paths that seemed to lead nowhere. That she was so fortunate to follow her heart's guidance and meet the Master so immediately and effortlessly delighted me to no end as I followed her spiritual journey in _THE TENTH DOOR_ I wish I had been so lucky. Thank you, Michele, for writing of your adventures under the wisdom tree of Walt Baptiste.

I have known Michelle Hebert for about 10 years through my guest and guest presenting stays at Rancho La Puerta where she was hired after she left the Baptiste Center.Michelle is a kind and compassionate yoga instructor and spiritualist. She communicates openly, directly, and honestly in her professional and social venues and these communication attributes are eloquently reflected in her easy to read and award winning book.In an open and intimate literary style she clearly and in detail fashion speaks of her highs and dark night of the soul lows experienced during the implementation of her responsibilities assigned to her by Walt Baptiste at both the San Francisco Center and the retreat center in El Salvador. She documents in a lucid manner her proud assessment of her ongoing confident emotional and spiritual growth as she,by choice, experiences separation from her parents and many siblings, during the many years she alternated between the San Francisco Baptiste Center and the Baptiste retreat center in El Salvador.
An outstanding and captivating book.

A great read and I'm not even a devout yogi! But my wife Laura is, and now I understand her so much better. Michele's wonderful book is insightful, informative, extemely well-written and chronicles her spiritual journey in a most entertaining adventure. Highly recommended.
I have met both Walt and Magana Baptiste and many years ago I was even fortunate enough to have taken a yoga class from Walt. It was really enjoyable for me to learn more about Walt's life and philosophies. I've known Michele and her husband Mehrad for many years and have taken many yoga classes from both of them. Michele is truly a master yogi and now I've learned both a master storyteller and interpreter of yoga wisdom. Well done!

This book is a loving and lovely tribute from student to teacher. The author candidly reveals the joys and travails she encountered on her spiritual journey. She reminds those of us who have been fortunate to receive guidance from a guru how our life path is forever changed. Although autobiographical, the book reads like a novel: well written, well paced and chock full of gems of wisdom.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "The Tenth Door", and savored every morsel of the story. This autobiographical book by Michele Hébert is a good read for anyone, whether or not they're interested in yoga. It is an inner and outer adventure that is full of the unexpected; one that takes the reader through the transformation from restless teen to serene yogi along with the main character. Michele is not a stereotypical yogini (if there is such a one.)

"The Tenth Door" was even more fascinating for me, as I'm a yoga student of Sherri Baptiste, the daughter of Michele's master teacher, Walt Baptiste. I highly recommend this book for anyone with a curious mind. You may find yourself deeply touched by it, as I did.

Thank you Michele for sharing your personal story about pursuing and ultimately living a life filled with consciousness, optimism and divinity.
In our materialistic society, it is so easy to stray from life's deepest treasures and lose sight of authenticity and purpose. Your book
can inspire even the most skeptical minds to consider the options available to us all, if we are willing to open our eyes, our hearts and our souls.
I want to remind your readers not to overlook the "Secret Chapter" which further illustrates your genuine desire to help guide us all along our journeys.
