4.0 out of 5 stars The light-hearted cast and direction charm! February 23, 2014
In light of the other gems and masterpieces in their respective crowns, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks's latest collaboration: THE TERMINAL may pale in comparison. But with Steven Spielberg's style and heart and Tom Hanks providing his everyman charm, The Terminal ends up being a lighthearted, enjoyable, and charming heart-warmer.

The charm of the movie is largely due to it's expert casting. Tom Hanks is lovable and moving as fish-out-of-water Viktor Navorski, while Catherine Zeta-Jones gives a performance of surprising depth as Amelia, a stewardess who can't stay tied down. In the supporting cast, we have the excellent Stanley Tucci as a harried immigration official, and Zoe Saldana in an enjoyable role as visa checker Dolores. The talented cast plays their quirky characters with smart and funny aplomb.

The premise of the film is a bit simple: Viktor Navorski's country is destroyed as he flies to America, rendering him a citizen of nowhere. Therefore, finding himself stranded in JFK airport, he touches the lives of his fellow travellers, officials, and stewardesses - but Andrew Niccol and Sacha Gervasi's witty and clever script lends the film weight.

Technically, The Terminal is excellent. Finding no airport that could accommodate his needs, Spielberg built one from scratch, which cinematographer Janusz Kaminski brings to bright, airy life. And John Williams's upbeat score fits the film perfectly.

The result - the talented supporting cast, the quirky characters, and lighthearted storyline - all add up to a little film that is enjoyable, well-acted, stylish, and quite frankly, hilarious! The Terminal is not the finest thing Spielberg, Hanks, or Zeta-Jones have ever done, but it charms nevertheless.

My ranking? Platform 4 out of 5!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Spielberg's best comedy drama. July 17, 2014
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
I can't believe it's been 10 years since the theatrical release. I think it is one of Spielberg's best comedy dramas that work because of the wonderful cast of characters that are very realistic. When watching the climax of this movie I cry. It's a must own and a movie you can pass along to other people that love these type of movies.

I knew about this blu-ray through's Blu-ray and DVD review podcast called Digital Noise. Check that show out if you are interested in a more professional take.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stuck in an airline terminal? What would you do? July 2, 2014
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Very good acting by Tom Hanks. His dialect made this movie authentic as he was a foregner to the U.S. and the difficulty he had in communicating. It doesn't seem to have based on a true story but you have to wonder if it could happen! Very entertaining.

Charming, fun movie. Hanks is at his best again being charming and witty. Anything from Spielberg and Hanks is a knock out of the park.
