First off, my opinion of Jessica Smith may be a little biased, because I have been a BIG fan of her workouts and teaching methods for close to three years now. (I LOVE HER!!)

I started my weight loss journey with a box of Special K cereal, and a free "10 Minute Solution" DVD that came in the box. Little did I know, that little free DVD would change my life. Each section on the DVD was instructed by Jessica Smith, hence my "healthy obsession" with her teaching methods and style. Since that time, I have added each and every single DVD that Jessica ever put out to my DVD to my collection.

I bought this book, initially to support Jessica, as I had been doing her workout DVDs for years. I didn't think I would find much pertinent information in this book since I had been working out consistently for a long time, but soon found out I was sorely mistaken.

In addition to the step by step workouts, tips for living a healthier lifestyle (including a full meal plan) and direction for burning more calories, and becoming healthier each day, this book includes a 60 minute DVD complete with a cardio workout, strength training workouts, abdominals and a stretching workout which can be done individually, or together for a complete full body workout.

Having thoroughly read through the book, I learned several new "tips of the trade", and have implemented what I have learned towards improving my own personal health both physically, emotionally, and nutritionally.

This book is perfect for anyone just starting out on their fitness journey, or a seasoned, active, and somewhat healthy individual such as myself. :)

A big two thumbs up, and 5 stars from me!

This is a great little book and DVD. Jessica Smith has been there! She knows what it's like to struggle with losing weight and changing habits that lead to a less than healthy lifestyle. The exercises can be done in 10 minute segments and the illustrations are clear and easy to understand. The meals are quick, tasty, and easy to fix~even for busy people with very tight schedules. And, the DVD has 4 great little workouts that differ from those in the book. Plus, she has a website with more tips, menus, exercises, etc. to offer added support. I highly recommend this book.

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.
This is a terrific concept for people who think they don't have enough time to eat right or exercise. Everything is broken down into 10 minutes at a time. This is especially nice for those who are just beginning a new diet plan or want to start exercising. It is easy enough to add 10 minutes of exercise. But with this program they do expect you to work hard those 10 minutes. Each exercise is diagrammed and explained clearly. As a beginner I found it hard to keep up the pace the book sets. The meals should only take 10 minutes as well, although I had more of a problem with that. I am trying to eat healthier, and sometimes these recipes and meal plans were not to my liking, but they are nutritious and fast. I like that they give hints to make each exercise or recipe more complex ....for when I reach the point that I will need it.
The part that I had trouble with was trying to figure out how fast I had to walk to work at the level I needed. Eventually I used someone's treadmill to measure my time, and I found I wasn't walking fast enough before. I also wonder if someone who is used to exercising would find this plan challenging enough.
It is a very helpful book and easy to apply to anyone's lifestyle. There is a DVD included which I really appreciated. I still haven't seen a big change in my own energy level or weight.

I work from home but never seem to have time to grab my keys, drive to the gym and take a 50 minute class. Yet, I always seem to have 10 minutes to rummage in the fridge for a snack. My eureka moment came in the first chapter - hello, 'exercise snacking'?!? What a concept. Instead of a 10 minute fridge run I'm spending 10 minutes grabbing an exercise snack. Makes me feel better and I'm actually better able to focus on my day. Thanks Jessica & Liz! I just wish that there was some way to get the DVD content with the Kindle version, but found tons of great quick videos on the blog.

This book is well written, easy to understand, and well categorized. The author gives very good suggestions, tips, and insight into general healthy living, fitness, and eating well. This is a simplified technique, which is truly what our fast-paced society needs. No rigorous planning involved! I was quite impressed with this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in living a healthier lifestyle!

Jessica Smith and Liz Neporent are both well established in their expertise as a fitness professional and health journalist and it shines through in every page of Thin In 10. The workouts are quick and effective for even the busiest of people and even includes a DVD if you want to follow along. We love the simplicity of the healthy recipes included in the book - showing that healthful eating and home cooking are accessible for even the most novice of cooks. It's a quick read that shares a lot of valuable information. We're the largest diet review site on the web, so when we give a 5-star to a book we mean it!
