Product Description
Nina Haarhuis is a highly attractive woman of 28, working as a house model at a New York lingerie firm, with a main ambition in life that is quite simple: catching a rich husband. A perfect candidate has already been picked and Nina is very much busy weaving her net around him when, one otherwise unremarkable afternoon, her daily routine is disrupted by a man named Michael Walsh who introduces himself as an N.Y.P.D. detective and presents Nina with shocking news: in the last 14 days someone has executed, in cold blood, three of her ex-lovers.
The following investigation relies mostly on Nina’s collaboration; she tries to help, but does not allow this little inconvenience to influence her matrimonial plans. A few days after the happy occasion, however, her new husband gets killed in the same style as the first three victims and this unfortunate event brings to light an astonishing disclosure which, in a roundabout way, pushes Nina to the top of the list of suspects in her husband’s murder – and makes her realize she is caught in the middle of a deadly contest of two people who will stick at nothing in their fight for her affection...
‘The Third Suspect’ is a mystery-thriller exploring the lengths to which the three main characters entangled in a peculiar love triangle are willing to go to satisfy their diverse cravings and aspirations; it is a tale of obsession rather than love, weakness rather than strength, cowardice rather than courage. The novel’s main forte is its plot – from the get go, the reader is taken on a roller-coaster ride of events and twists powered by the virtues and faults of the leading characters, chief among them being, of course, Nina – a fresh, unconventional type of (anti)heroine who might very well become branded as the deadliest fictional blonde since Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct. And that’s without wielding any ice picks.
