just wanted to give a heads up on this one,it's basically just the "New Three Stooges" shorts from the 60's and were already in color,it's not bad,it's basically the same thing that was released by "Goodtimes" only a little bit clearer picture, the only addition is the dude from mystery science theater introducing it,the bonus feature is just 3 "three stooges cartoons",so if you own the original goodtime dvd it's just an upgrade,I suggest buying the box set....

I am a huge fan of the Stooges and really enjoyed watching this silly collection of their routines. I did notice one reviewer was way too harsh with their comments. Sort of makes me wonder if that review was written by a young consumer who simply did not understand the simple style of comedy that the Stooges offers. Long before there was Eddie Murphy or Steve Martin, there were the Stooges. Personally, I found this funny and very entertaining.

This is FAR from their greatest, it is their 1965 re-performance of their classic routines. Moe & Larry are much older and Curly has been replaced by Curly-Joe, their comedy pacing is off and slow. Also why buy these 16mm prints when you can get the original uncut versions on the cartoon releases?

The Three Stooges - Cartoon Classics, Vol. 1
The Three Stooges: Cartoon Classics, Vol. 2

Watching this will only make you yearn for the original classic performances of the 1930's & 1940's.

The original Stooges, Larry, Moe, and Curly were classics. They created the bedrock of modern stupid comedy. If you've watched anything made for teens on Nick or Disney or for that matter most primetime comedy, you've seen Stooge-influenced humor.

So when I read the title "The Three Stooges Greatest Routines" and the description reads "Larry, Moe, and Curly ...", I thought, this should be good and would absolutely be Stooges at the peak of their career.

NO it isn't! This is hack-edited snippets of an obscure Stooge movie made at the end of the Stooge run. Curly had probably been dead for years and in his place was that annoying imitation, Joe.

The absolute worst part of this car-wreck were the interruptions from a couple of hack-bloggers attempting to be funny. They try to bridge the gaps between the poorly edited skits. Nothing is in context and whatever story may have originally tied these bits together has been butchered out.

This is not to say I think the "Stooges" who made this may have destroyed the original, I'm certain it was crap before they got their hands on it. However, there is a saying about making chicken salad from chicken, um, excrement, but if that's what they attempted to do they failed. Rather they created chicken crap shrapnel. It's deadly.
