This is an older book. The author is long gone. That being said, this is a book about gays in 1970 and 1980's Toronto. Specifically, Tim and David, who find each other, lose one another, then find each other again. It's also about their wide variety of friends. And it's about AIDS in it's early stages.

Being seen as gleeful from the straight community and disbelieving by the gay community, it reminds me of The Normal Heart, or in this case, The Normal Heart reminds me of The Toronto You Are Leaving. They look upon straights as thinking AIDS is a punishment for their lifestyle, some gays refuse to stop living the life they must eventually abandon.

Written beautifully by Gordon Stewart Anderson, the book is a love story, pure and simple, but for the strength of a group of people who seem doomed. There is a lengthy letter written by one of Tim and David's friends, that is the perfect description of the last stages of the disease and the effects it has on the loved ones left behind. It's positively brilliant.

I have to say, the reason I bought this book is because of the wonderful cover which was done by Steve Walker. And that cover is a perfect one for this book.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who is sympathetic to the fight against AIDS and for those who don't understand it and need to do so.
