Book Description

Editorial Review

Lisa Olsen gives us a darker trip into the paranormal with her sophomore book, The Touch. Lexi has the gift of psychometry, the ability to read past memories of an object. She quickly becomes embroiled in a police investigation into her sister's family which brings her into contact with Detective Gabriel Ryan, a face from the past. The third person POV allows for better access into the investigation, following Detective Ryan, and offers just enough insight into the crime procedure without becoming weighed down by it. Adding to the mix is the presence of ghosts, each with their own agenda. The Touch offers the quick, witty banter this author is becoming known for, while adding a fair amount of suspense and chills from the otherworldly characters.

Product Description

Lexi Morgan has always had The Touch; the ability to pick up an object and 'see' its past. Doomed to wearing protective gloves at all times, she learned to accept it as equal parts gift and curse. When her brother in law Neil disappears, she'd rather tell her sister to celebrate than try to help find the jerk. But after her young niece vanishes as well, it's time to put her gift to good use and help track her down, especially when handsome Detective Gabriel Ryan takes over the case. When the investigation leads them to the restless spirits of long dead children, they must work together to keep history from repeating itself before it's too late.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Thrill Ride September 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
"The Touch" is a paranormal thriller set in modern times in Santa Cruz, California. In the beginning, we are introduced to Alexandra "Lexi" Morgan. She is an artist, living in an old Victorian house with two friends, Paul and Maddie. What sets her aside from everyone else is the gloves she wears at all times. When she touches an object, her mind is flooded with images of people have have previously handled it. At times, when the item is deeply personal, she can get far more intimate thoughts the person had.

When Lexi's sister, Allison "Allie" Travers tells her that her husband has disappeared, things start getting intense and never stop. Lexi and Neil never got along. Matter of fact, she couldn't stand her brother-in-law, especially since he limited her contact with her 10 year old niece, Chloe. She decides to be a good sister and support Allie.

Enter Detective Gabriel Ryan. Having dated Allie briefly in High School, he decides to stop in to take the missing persons report. His connection with Lexi, however, is unexpected and virtually instantaneous. During the course of the investigation, Chloe subsequently disappears.

So what's happening? What happened to Neil? What is the secret of his affair with his coworker? Did he run off and take Chloe with him? Maybe, until Lexi's "touch" unleashes discoveries that fly in the face of everything anybody believes.

This book is excellent, but it's two strongest points are the characters and author's ability to weave a thriller that never slows down. Lexi is a very in-depth character and is about as realistic as they come. Not to say the others weren't, because they definitely are (I actually liked the obnoxious detective Cooper).

5.0 out of 5 stars Lisa Olsen's, The Touch September 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There wasn't anything I disliked about this book. Ms. Olsen's talent for telling this story from page one hooked me right away. Her main character, Lexi, is quirky and self-confidant but also vulnerable and shows insecurities with intimacy. Something we all struggle with at times.

Alli is Lexi's sister, prim and proper. She lives in denial over her husband, Neil's, cheating ways. To the outside world, everything looks rosy. However, the story opens with Alli's husband missing.

Chloe is Lexi's niece. Sometime after Neil's disappearance, she confides in her aunt about ghosts in her house and her mother's strange behavior. Not long after her dad's disappearance, she goes missing, too.

Gabriel is the detective assigned to the case, an old boyfriend to Alli from high school. Out of curiosity, he takes a quick liking to Lexi despite her qift and purple-streaked hair. The relationship between the two are good chemistry-a tug of war- even though there's a crime to solve.

Paul is one of Lexi's housemates. He's got the hots for her, too, and has known her a lot longer than Gabriel. The chemistry's not so bad here either. It keeps you wondering who she will end up with in the end.

There are other characters to add to this intoxicating brew but I'll let you find out for yourselves. More than likely, Ms. Olsen will have you wondering about Alli's strange behavior and what do the ghost have to do with anything. Even the house gives you a deep-down-creepy feeling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soooo Good.... July 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was great! It had a wonderful blend of Supernatural, mystery and romance. the ghost children were creepy but not over the top, and the ending was unexpected, but in a great way. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, I couldn't put it down. Over all this book was great, I really enjoyed reading, and I can't wait for the author to release her next one. :o)

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, light reading October 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This plot was light & fluffy but had some good parts. All in all, it was a pleasant way to spend a lazy aftenoon. There were quite a few eyeball roll moments. For instance:

SPOILER ALERT: What mother would have a sleepover with her sister, paint toenails, eat junk food & watch movies when her child is missing and her husband had just been killed?

This was a fun read, and I enjoyed the creepiness and suspense. However, the plot often didn't make sense, especially with how much time Lexi spent doing nothing, as if the many, many obvious things she could have done simply hadn't ocurred to her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lisa Olsen's "The Touch" is a must read! January 5, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I’m not going to get into a play-by-play of the plot, no spoilers here, but I felt compelled to say something about Lisa Olsen and her story “The Touch”.
The opening paragraph drew me in, I was hooked wanting and needing to know what was going to happen next. Lisa’s characters are realistic with exemplary dialog. The story line is original, flowing effortlessly toward a riveting, unpredictable climax.
Admittedly, “The Touch” is the first of Lisa Olsen’s books that I have read, but is most definitely not the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light & Entertaining February 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a well pace bit of storytelling with an engaging heroine saddled with an interesting "gift". The plot had enough depth to make it a satisfying read while not taking itself too seriously. I definitely will consider purchasing more of this writer's work!

2.0 out of 5 stars definitely shouldn't write police procedurals
this would have done way better to write around the law enforcement aspect because the lack of credibility of that aspect sunk it for me just too unbelievable. Read more

More About the Author

I am a writer, wife and mother of two currently living in the Pacific Northwest. I am a complete TV addict (have to have it on at all times, even when I'm writing). I also enjoy online RPG's, singing, reading, cooking... lots more I can't think of at the moment.

The supernatural has long been my favorite to write and read. Werewolves, vampires, witchcraft, ghosts, things that go bump in the night; these are a few of my favorite things to write about. Not sparkly beings with phenomenal cosmic power that are always the smartest, bravest, prettiest Mary Sue to walk the planet, but real people who just happen to have this little quirk...
