5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable, well executed and worth the $$ May 24, 2011

I really had fun with this game. It is probably the best of the Mystery Island series. You must complete a series of chapters in order to earn a wooden relic for each "room" on a large cruise ship. In each chapter there will be approximately 10 rooms to complete. The player must find pieces of objects in each room that are then put into your inventory. These objects then can be used to complete puzzles. Some of the hidden pieces require the completion of another puzzle in order to find them. These objects glow red so that you know they require further action. The hints are unlimited and regenerate fairly quickly. You need to go back and forth between rooms to complete all the necessary puzzles to finish each chapter. This is the kind of game that requires you to remember where you saw things and which rooms need what inventory items. There is a map, though, that will let you know which rooms are locked, open, complete or require further actions. I really enjoyed the mini puzzles. I found some of them to be quite challenging and very original (the luggage puzzle to find the oar was one type I had never seen before). They weren't so challenging that they were frustrating and I noticed that you could skip any of them that you couldn't or didn't wish to complete. Let's be clear here -- this is one of the best games of this type of genre. However, there are better seek and find/role playing games that are much better (check out Mystery Case Files Dire Grove, for instance). But, this game is a clear standout because of it's sheer enjoyment factor. It takes quite a while to complete which makes it a much better bang for the buck than most of the games I have played lately. I give it two thumbs up and a hearty recommendation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well done story May 23, 2011
    Platform for Display:PC Download|Verified Purchase
This is a hidden object game with a difference. The objects that you must find in each of the the various scenes are only two or three in each scene but they are broken apart and the parts must be found in the scene for the object to have been found and then used either in that same scene or another. Imagine a hammer broken into six parts and having to find all of the parts to use the hammer. I, at first, didn't like it (preferring the typical HOG) but I got used to it and found that it wasn't so bad after all. I had to use the hint several times though throughout the game.

The mini-games were few and at grade-school level in difficulty. But they were interesting and served as an entertaining minor diversion from the game.

The story was fairly interesting and had a definite and dramatic conclusion.

In short - I found it worth the $$.

This is the best of the Treasures of Mystery Island series!
Well worth the $$. It took me 3 evenings to complete. Usually a game will take me 1 evening to
complete. The hints are back up in 1 minute & you do not have to earn them. LOVE ALAWAR GAMES!

    3.0 out of 5 stars Frustrations June 21, 2011
    Platform for Display:PC Download|Verified Purchase
Although the game was enjoyable, I was very frustrated with some glitches in the software. I got "stuck" in a loop with the mailbox in the garage. I spent almost an hour trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Finally looked up the game on a hints site and learned there is a glitch in the game. I learned how to get out of the loop. Another problen I found was the screen minimizing itself. Must have done that at least 10 times. All in all, an enjoyable game, but the company needs to fix a few problems.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A rollicking adventure! July 7, 2011
    Platform for Display:PC Download|Verified Purchase
Long ago an elegant cruise ship named the Queen Margaret was hit by a tsunami type wave which deluged the ship and buried all aboard in a huge wall of surging sea. The stricken ship became a prison for shipwrecked souls who could not escape. The ship, without a live person on board and submerged at the bottom of the sea, is attached forever to a tropical island nearby.

As a reporter you visit the Santa Rossa island when weird rumors of ghosts and deaths abound and you are to investigate the phenomena. A good friend, Jane, who would be your guide, went ahead of you, but she too has disappeared.

The artwork in this intriguing and beautiful game is top notch, the story is great, but prepare for the most diabolically hidden objects ever. The items to be found appear whole at the bottom of your screen, but they are divided into teeny weeny pieces and you're going to need eyes like a hawk to find them. The hint mechanism, however is very forgiving!

You are going to be kept very busy trying to solve the mysteries, gathering items to help you and utilizing them in the right manner. You learn that a wicked shaman was responsible for the huge wave that engulfed the ship and is waiting for his chance to send another one to destroy the island. Ghosts from the ship materialize as you go, warning you that the shaman will strike at the eclipse of the moon and the countdown begins, you have to hurry, hurry! You save each ghost by finding an artifact particular to him such as an artist's palette or a violin for a musician, a spyglass for a sailor. When the ghost is "saved" he becomes a little wooden doll which you place in the proper room of a model ship. We are reminded of Alawar's "Stray Souls: A Dollhouse Story".
