Tree work is America's most dangerous profession. If you are just entering this profession, this is a MUST read. If you are already working in the trees, you'll get a lot of new ideas and tricks to keep you alive while aloft. Jeff Jepson is a working arborist. He knows his stuff inside out. The illustrator, Brian Kotwica, is also a working arborist. He knows what is important to illustrate, with little fluff to distract you when you try to figure out what is being shown to you.

I hate to say this, but there is very little out there in how-to information with this profession, especially written material. This little book is used world wide. You can get it in Spanish too. This is a simple book, one you can take out into the field with you. Read it many times. It can make your work much easier and most importantly, can make you much safer. In this profession as a climbing tree worker, it only takes one small error in judgement or technique to destroy or end your life. Take the time to learn your craft and never crank your saw until everything is rigged correctly and everyone below is ready for you to make the cut. A cut branch falling from height can easily injure or kill those below, not to mention wreck houses. Learn how to rig and ALWAYS think it through before you make a cut.

This book will take out a lot of guess work as far as technique and safety is concerned. Sure, trial and error can serve you with some of life's challenges, but not tree work. Buy this book!

Short and sweet; the book is exactly what the title describes. It goes into to detail where it needs to and doesn't where it shouldn't. The knot and rope reference material in it is worth the price by itself.

I have several reasons to be in trees; sometimes with gaffs and others via SRT. This book covers all aspects of climbing, gear, safety and more.

I believe that it even has information in it that a seasoned climber could use.

Five stars and two thumbs up!

This isn't exactly a thrilling read, but it does provide solid information about tools and techniques for climbing trees. I would recommend, however, that this not be your sole source of guidance if you are undertaking a large project; find an experienced climber or tree surgeon and trade beer for some at-the-trunk tactics.

This is a thorough and well illustrated presentation of the tools and techniques of the tree climber's trade. Safety is emphasized including references to published standards in the field and supported by examples from the author's personal experience. This should be required reading for anyone working in trees!

I saw a tree expert using ropes in ways that I never thought of and wanted to learn how he did the things he could do. This reference was what I needed. It shows you everything you will need for just about any rope application. I highly recommend this book as a reference for folks who like to work and play outdoors.

Not a big book, but full of essentials and helpful illustrations. It would be. Ice if author would add information on use of pulleys for lowering tree sections. Overall, great price to utility ratio.
