Book Description

The Truth About Labor Epidural presents comprehensive facts regarding this method of relieving the pain of childbirth. Though the primary theme of the book is epidural analgesia, it also reviews all other available methods of reducing labor pain, from acupuncture and hypnosis to the use of laughing gas and warm baths. Among the topics are:

- why labor hurts?
- does epidural increase the risk of caesarean section?
- can it cause chronic back pain
- does it interfere with breastfeeding?
- does it negatively affect the newborn?
- are there effective alternatives to labor epidural?

The the aim of the book is neither to discourage or encourage you to use the epidural, but provide truthful information about the ways to treat labor pain, based on the most current medical research. Understanding both risks and benefits of various interventions will help the expectant mother to choose the most appropriate way of dealing with the pain of childbirth for her situation.
